Finds success through air Sunday
Mitchell carried the ball eight times for 36 yards and caught all five of his targets for 43 yards in Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Cardinals.
Impact
The 49ers found themselves in a 17-0 hole early in the second quarter, forcing the team to all but abandon its running game, leading to the least productive day of the season on the ground for Mitchell. The rookie stayed involved in the offense, however, setting career highs in catches, targets and receiving yards. Jeff Wilson was active for the first time all year Sunday but didn't see any touches. It's possible Wilson finds a larger role in Week 10 against the Rams, but Mitchell appears to have a firm hold on the No. 1 job in the San Francisco backfield as long as he stays healthy.

Playing Sunday
Mitchell (ribs) is active for Sunday's contest versus the Cardinals, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Mitchell got on the practice field twice during Week 9 prep, both times donning a blue non-contact jersey. The rookie sixth-rounder ended up being a limited participant and entered the weekend as questionable. While Adam Schefter of ESPN reported earlier Sunday that Mitchell was in line to play -- which now is confirmed -- the 49ers aren't sure how much work the running back will be able to handle. In his five appearances (four starts) this season, Mitchell has averaged 17 touches for 92.6 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring three TDs on the ground. If Mitchell yields backfield reps to teammates, Jeff Wilson, JaMycal Hasty and Trenton Cannon are the candidates to pick up the slack, while Trey Sermon (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch.

Impact
Mitchell was on the practice field Friday for the second straight day, but he continued to sport a blue no-contact jersey during the session. Despite this report, fantasy managers will still want to check back in on the status of Mitchell approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, when San Francisco will release its inactive list.

Takes questionable tag into weekend
Mitchell (ribs) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
Per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com, Mitchell was on the practice field Friday for the second straight day, but he continued to sport a blue no-contact jersey during the session. The 49ers may just be taking some extra precaution by limiting Mitchell's exposure to contact, but his ability to practice in any capacity on back-to-back days bodes well for his chances of suiting up this weekend. Fantasy managers will still want to check back in on the status of Mitchell approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, when San Francisco will release its inactive list. Assuming Mitchell is active, he should serve as the 49ers' lead option on the ground after clearing 100 yards rushing in both of the past two weeks.

Limited at practice Thursday
Mitchell (ribs) was limited at Thursday's practice, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact
After not practicing at all Wednesday, Mitchell was on the field one day later wearing a blue non-contact jersey, which signaled the 49ers were capping his reps as he deals with a rib issue. Indeed, he operated under practice limitations, giving him one more chance to put in a full showing before week's end. Elsewhere in the backfield, JaMycal Hasty, Trey Sermon and Trenton Cannon avoided the injury report this week, while Jeff Wilson (knee) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list. No matter, if Mitchell is available this Sunday, he'll be the 49ers' lead runner against the Cardinals.

Seen at practice Thursday
Mitchell (ribs) was present at the portion of Thursday's practice open to the media, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Mitchell was donning a non-contact blue jersey, so if he fits in some work he likely won't be more than a limited participant. He's working his way through a rib issue, making it understandable for the 49ers to avoid any unnecessary dings on the practice field. In any case, Friday's injury report will be telling as it pertains to Mitchell's status for a Week 9 matchup with the Cardinals.

Logs DNP on Wednesday
Mitchell (ribs) won't practice Wednesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Barrows notes that the hope is Mitchell gets some practice in during the week, so we'll revisit the running back's status no later than Thursday. In the 49ers' Week 8 win over the Bears, Mitchell was on the field for 36 of a possible 56 snaps on offense en route to carrying 18 times for 137 yards and a TD.

Tending to rib injury
Mitchell is dealing with a rib injury and is expected to be limited in practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Mitchell ran roughshod over the Bears on Sunday, turning 18 carries into 137 yards and one touchdown. It marked his third 100-yard game in five appearances as a pro, but he's also now poised to appear on the 49ers' injury report for the second time this season. With practice limitations set to be placed on Mitchell, the team's healthy running backs are JaMycal Hasty, Trey Sermon and Trenton Cannon, while Jeff Wilson's (knee) practice window to return from the PUP list may open this week and Raheem Mostert (knee) is out for the season.

Runs wild on Chicago
Mitchell rushed 18 times for 137 yards and was not targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 33-22 win over Chicago.
Impact
Mitchell dominated the backfield touches (18 of 21) for the second consecutive week since returning from injured reserve, cementing his role as the 49ers' lead back going forward. It was the rookie sixth-rounder's third game with both 100-plus yards and a touchdown in five starts this year. Mitchell has elevated himself into must-start territory heading into a matchup against the Cardinals in Week 9.
