Three catches against Seattle Carter caught three of seven targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 37-23 loss to the Seahawks.

Impact With Joshua Palmer (concussion) inactive, Keenan Allen on a pitch count in his first game back from a hamstring strain, and Mike Williams carted off in the fourth quarter after suffering an ankle injury, Justin Herbert's option were limited as he attempted to put together a late comeback. As a result, both Carter and Michael Bandy (a woeful one catch for minus-5 yards on six targets) set new season highs for themselves in targets, although neither had much to show for it. The Chargers get a timely Week 8 bye, which should at the very least allow Allen to resume his normal workload after another week of rest, but Carter could still end up handling a bigger role in the offense if Williams' injury proves to be serious.

Impact Both Carter and tight end Gerald Everett acted as Justin Herbert's security blankets on a night when the Broncos pass rush was consistently in the quarterback's face. Carter had lost playing time in prior weeks though, and Monday's outing doesn't necessarily represent a change in fortune. Keenan Allen (hamstring) hinted he could make his return next week, which would all but end Carter's offensive snaps.

Impact Carter continues to see plenty of playing time (59 percent of the offensive snaps Sunday), but after a three-game stretch to begin the season as a deep-threat specialist, the Chargers have simply used his speed as a decoy, and in the process, limited his average depth of target dramatically. Keenan Allen (hamstring) should be back soon, which in turn would likely dramatically cut Carter's playing time.

During Allen's three-game absence, Carter never saw more than four targets in a contest, but after two straight weeks to open the season with receptions of 20-plus yards, the speedy receiver largely has been used as a gimmick option since then.

Impact Carter saw just four targets despite the Chargers attempting 45 passes in what quickly turned into a blowout. The speedy wide receiver once again took a backseat to Joshua Palmer (six catches, 99 yards) and also saw Jalen Guyton make some plays (two catches, 64 yards) before suffering a serious knee injury. Expect Carter to fall out of the rotation as soon as Keenan Allen (hamstring) is able to return, which could be as soon as Week 4 against the Texans.
