Early deficits, lots of throws add up to wins for Chargers
Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers are thriving in situations when most teams fold

Season-high 10 targets
Carter recorded seven receptions on 10 targets for 73 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-24 win over the Cardinals.
Impact
Despite the presence of Keenan Allen, Carter turned 10 targets into seven receptions -- both of which were season highs. His performance was highlighted by a 33-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter, and he also chipped in catches of 13 and 12 yards. Carter's role will likely fade once Mike Williams (ankle) is able to return, though it's unclear when that may be.

Still factor in passing game
Carter caught all three of his targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Chiefs.
Impact
The return of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams figured to relegate Carter back to his return duties, but the speedy receiver immediately returned to a prominent role after Williams suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter. Expect Carter to continue to be a mainstay in the Chargers' three-wideout packages until the duo of Allen and Williams is completely healthy.

Good to go for Week 11
Carter (ribs) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game versus the Chiefs.
Impact
With both Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle) sidelined the last two contests, Carter put up a combined 9-117-1 line on 10 targets while playing at least 82 percent of the offensive snaps. Carter joined his fellow wide receivers on Week 11 injury reports, going LP/LP/FP (like Allen and Williams) due to a rib injury. While Carter has been cleared to play this weekend, Allen and Williams are questionable. As a result, if one or both happen to sit out again Sunday, Carter could be in line for another decent dose of passes from quarterback Justin Herbert.

Logs limited practice
Carter was a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to a rib injury.
Impact
Along with Carter, Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle) were limited participants at the Chargers' first Week 11 practice. If one or both of Allen and Williams are able to suit up this Sunday against the Chiefs, Carter's workload could take a hit, assuming he's active for the contest. In this past weekend's loss to the 49ers, Carter caught all four of his targets for 64 yards and a touchdown while playing 50 of 58 snaps on offense alongside Joshua Palmer (55 snaps, three catches on eight targets) and Michael Bandy (49 snaps, zero catches).

Scores touchdown in loss
Carter caught all four of his targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the 49ers.
Impact
Carter was the recipient of a wide-open touchdown to begin the Chargers' opening possession, but the speed receiver was held relatively in check from that point forward as the 49ers limited any subsequent big plays. Carter's been an offensive factor with both Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle) sidelined, but both receivers could be returning soon, which would relegate the 29-year-old back to his typical special teams duties.

Five catches in Week 9 win
Carter (illness) caught five of six targets for 53 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Falcons.
Impact
Carter finished with exactly half the receiving yardage total of Joshua Palmer but still ranked second on the team as the Chargers played without Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle). He also retained his usual role as the return man on special teams, totaling 29 yards on three punt returns and 18 yards on one kickoff return. Carter's expanded role in Los Angeles' Justin Herbert-led passing game is intriguing, but even if the team's top two wide receivers remain sidelined in Week 10, getting open won't be easy against the stingy San Francisco secondary.

Suits up Sunday
Carter (illness) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Given that Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (knee) are inactive Sunday, Joshua Palmer and Carter figure to lead the Chargers' Week 9 wideout corps. With increased opportunities likely on tap for Carter in that scenario, the 29-year-old - who has caught 19 passes on 28 targets for 229 yards and a TD in seven games to date -- represents a fantasy lineup option for those who roster Allen or Williams or are seeking short-term WR help, with six NFL teams on bye.

Questionable due to illness
Carter is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest in Atlanta due to an illness, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
While Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (knee) have been ruled out for Week 9, Joshua Palmer has cleared the concussion protocol and is set to play for the first time since Week 6. Carter seemingly would be next in line for targets, if he's active, but an illness will follow him into the weekend. Assuming Carter is able to suit up Sunday, he'll enter the contest with marks of 12.1 YPC, 8.2 YPT and one touchdown on 19 catches and 28 targets in seven games this season.
