Slated for MRI Coach Steve Clifford indicated Tuesday that Ball (ankle) will undergo an MRI in the afternoon, Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact The Hornets have already ruled Ball out for the preseason finale, but the MRI may provide more intel regarding his availability for the season opener versus the Spurs on Oct. 19. When healthy, Ball figures to be a premier fantasy option in 2022-23 coming off of career marks of 20.1 points, 7.6 assists and 6.7 boards over 32.3 minutes per game last season.

Impact Ball knocked down his first two shots in the first quarter but went just 3-of-11 from the field for the rest of the game. It was a bit of a sloppy performance for the star point guard, as he also turned it over four times in the game, including three turnovers in the third quarter -- two of which came off steals from Buddy Hield. On a positive note, Ball did record four assists in the third quarter before sitting out for all of the fourth.

Impact Ball ended up as Charlotte's second-best scorer and led the team in rebounds and assists, but those numbers won't matter much if he struggles with efficiency as he did in this game. It's only the first game of the preseason, though, and he should get sharper as he gets more on-court time. Even if he has an off game from time to time, Ball should garner plenty of fantasy value due to his ability to contribute in several categories at an above-average level.
