Impact Simpson followed a comparable two-stop strategy to Rinus VeeKay to bring home his first IndyCar podium. He managed to rise from 13th place after stretching his alternate tires to last 16 laps for the opening stint. While Simpson was being challenged late by Colton Herta, a yellow flag with three laps to go allowed Simpson to hold onto the third-place finish and top Chip Ganassi car of the day.

That helped him take a massive leap from a qualifying position of 23rd to record his second top-six finish in his last three races.
