Runner-up Finish at Fontana Elliott finished second in the Pala Casino 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway Sunday afternoon.

Impact Elliott would start a distant 33rd on the grid, but he'd quickly make his way forward. By the end of stage 1 he'd be running 10th and would remain a face among the Top 10 the rest of the way. Elliott continued his methodical move forward over the next two stages and was racing among the leaders in the closing laps. He'd get around Ross Chastain for second-place but couldn't reel-in leader Kyle Busch by the checkered flag. The excellent performance was Elliott's first Top 5 of the season.

Crash and DNF in Daytona 500 Elliott crashed and finished 38th in the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway Sunday evening.

Impact The race would stay pretty clean until lap 119. Elliott would be racing among the leaders and looking in good shape. However, that would all change when Kevin Harvick made contact with the rear of Tyler Reddick's car sending him spinning out of control. The ensuing chaos would roll up a total of eight cars, with Elliott's No. 9 Chevrolet taking a hard impact in the front and driver's side. The damage would be terminal and Elliott would have to retire for the day. The DNF in the Daytona 500 was a disappointing way for the Hendrick Motorsports star to kick off the season.

Rallies to Third-Place Elliott finished third in the Bluegreen Vacations Duel 2 at Daytona International Speedway Thursday night.

Impact Elliott would appear to be off the pace of the stronger Fords most of this 60-lap event. His No. 9 Chevrolet would also seem difficult to handle at times. However, Elliott would battle through the challenges and make a big push at the end. He would partner with Corey Lajoie late in the outside line on the last lap and scoot through a few hairy moments to finish third-place. Elliott was the highest finishing Chevrolet driver of the night between both Duels and will start eighth on the grid Sunday in the Daytona 500.
