Jacob Latz - Opens rotation bid
Latz allowed two hits over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's spring start against Arizona.
Impact
Latz was all over the strike zone, landing 20 of his 26 pitches there. The left-hander delivered first-pitch strikes to six of the eight batters faced and is the lone Texas starter to not allow a walk or a hit in spring starts. He's competing with Kumar Rocker for the fifth spot in the rotation or could land in a hybrid role.

Jake Burger - Swats spring homer
Burger went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's spring game against the Diamondbacks.
Impact
Burger is coming off a disappointing season, in which he spent three stints on the injured list for various reasons. He's healthy to start camp and looking to regain the 30-homer stroke he showing in 2023 and 2024 when playing for the Marlins. The right-handed hitting Burger will be part of the rotation at first base and designated hitter.

Jack Leiter - Introduces cutter
Leiter worked on adding a cutter to his arsenal during the offseason, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. "You're not looking for swing and misses with it, per se," he said. "It's m...
Impact
Leiter is toying with the cutter grip he learned from Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet this offseason, when the two worked out together in Tennessee. Leiter introduced the pitch in his spring debut Monday, when a threw two of them and induced a flyout and groundout. Efficiency has been an issue for Leiter, although the right-hander showed some improvement in that area over the second half of 2025.

Sebastian Walcott - Aiming for August return
Rangers GM Ross Fenstermaker said Tuesday that Walcott could be return for game action in August, "if all things according to plan" in his rehab from the internal brace procedure h...
Impact
Walcott could return to hitting after 5-to-6 months, but it'll likely be longer before he's cleared to take the field. The 19-year-old is Texas' top prospect, and getting him back into game action, even in a limited capacity, would set him up nicely heading into 2027. Walcott spent the 2025 campaign at Double-A Frisco, where he totaled 13 homers, 32 steals and a .255/.355/.386 slash line in 124 contests.

Sebastian Walcott - Undergoes internal brace surgery
Walcott underwent internal brace surgery on his right elbow last week, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact
The good news is he did not require a full Tommy John surgery. The bad news is he will still be sidelined for 5-to-6 months before resuming hitting, so he could still miss the entire season. One of the game's top prospects, Walcott slashed .255/.355/.386 with 13 home runs and 32 stolen bases over 124 games in 2025 at Double-A Frisco. He will turn 20 in March.

Danny Jansen - Pops first homer of spring
Jansen went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's Cactus League game against the Angels.
Impact
Jansen pieced together a few strong at-bats during Monday's exhibition. He struck for a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to get his squad on the board, and he later drew a six-pitch walk in the top of the fourth. Jansen hit second in the batting order Monday after being slotted in as the No. 3 hitter in his spring debut Saturday, though this is likely a strategy to get him as many at-bats as possible early in spring training games.

Josh Smith - Favorite for second base job
Smith appears to be the favorite to win the starting job at second base, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact
While the team hasn't openly announced that Smith is ahead of the competition, Corey Seager provided a hint when talking with media earlier in camp. When asked about working with someone new at the keystone, he specifically mentioned Smith, stating "I've played some games with him already so you kind of know how he operates. I'm really excited for him just to get this opportunity." Nothing is set in stone this early in camp, but Smith has now drawn two starts at second base in spring training and continues to work drills exclusively at second base outside of exhibitions, per McFarland.

Justin Foscue - Departs with tight hamstring
Foscue was lifted from Monday's Cactus League game against the Angels due to right hamstring tightness, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Foscue singled and scored a run in the top of the first inning in his lone plate appearance before being removed for defense prior to the bottom of the second. It's unclear whether he'll be sent for an MRI, but even if it's not serious, Foscue figures to be off limits for at least a day or two. He's competing for a reserve role with the Rangers.

Michael Helman - Returns to action Sunday
Helman (groin/hip) started in left field and went 0-for-1 with a strikeout Sunday in the Rangers' 9-5 win over the Rockies in Cactus League play.
Impact
Helman had been scheduled to make his second start of the spring Saturday against the Cubs, but he was scratched from the lineup due to injury. The groin/hip issue was evidently a minor concern, given that the Rangers felt comfortable reinserting him into the lineup a day later. Helman will be competing for a utility job with the Rangers throughout the spring and could be deployed in the short side of a platoon if he ends up making Texas' Opening Day roster.

Mason Thompson - Makes spring debut
Thompson (biceps) struck out two batters in a perfect inning Friday in the Rangers' 7-3 loss to the Royals in Cactus League play.
Impact
Thompson is attending Rangers camp as a non-roster invitee and appears to be fully healthy after missing the final week of the 2025 campaign when the Nationals placed him on the injured list due to right biceps tendinitis. The right-hander looks like a long shot to make the Rangers' Opening Day bullpen and will likely be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock before the end of camp.

Sam Haggerty - Offensive star Saturday
Haggerty started at second base and went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's spring game against the Cubs.
Impact
Haggerty is known more for his work in the outfield, but he can play multiple infield positions and will get a shot at backing up Josh Smith, who is the presumptive starter at second base. The 31-year-old Haggerty is not a lock to make the Opening Day roster, but efforts like Saturday and his defensive versatility will help. If he earns a roster spot, Haggerty could be a sneaky source of steals for fantasy lineups; he stole 12 bags in 64 games last season and has double-digit steals in three of the last four seasons.

Kumar Rocker - Makes spring debut
Rocker allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out two over two innings in Saturday's spring start against the Cubs.
Impact
Rocker began his quest for the final spot in the Rangers' rotation. There was traffic on the bases in each inning, and Rocker allowed a stolen base in both frames, which was an issue that plagued him in 2025 (11 steals, 64.1 innings). Texas manager Skip Schumaker said prior to the start that one of the things he was looking for was first-pitch strikes, according to Matt Postins of SI.com. Rocker, who only threw two of them among the nine batters he faced, said he was trying to be too fine. Another area of the manager's focus was the right-hander's use of the changeup, and Schumaker was pleased with what he saw Saturday. Rocker and Jacob Latz are the primary competitors for the available rotation spot.
