JP Sears - Officially called up The Padres recalled Sears from Triple-A El Paso to start Friday's game against the Rockies.
Impact Sears will give the Padres' regular starters an additional day of rest by making a spot start Friday. The 29-year-old southpaw has appeared in three games with the Padres this season, allowing nine runs with an 8:3 K:BB across 14.2 innings. David Morgan (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Impact Merrill struggled a bit right after returning from an ankle injury, but he's bounced back quickly. Over his last six games, he has gone 8-for-23 (.348) with six extra-base hits, including two homers. The outfielder is up to 11 homers, 56 RBI, 47 runs scored and one stolen base while slashing .259/.314/.429 over 101 contests in an injury-riddled season.

Robert Suarez - Picks up 37th save Suarez struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Thursday's 2-0 win over the Rockies.
Impact Suarez has allowed three runs over 7.1 innings in September, but this was his third clean appearance of the month. The Padres haven't generated a ton of save chances lately, which has led to Suarez slipping to second in the majors with 37 saves, two behind Kansas City's Carlos Estevez. Suarez is now at a 3.11 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 67:15 K:BB through 63.2 innings this season.

Randy Vásquez - Steady in fifth win Vasquez (5-6) allowed four hits and struck out nine without walking a batter over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Thursday.
Impact Vasquez has won both of his starts since rejoining the Padres' rotation, though both outings have been against the lowly Rockies. The nine strikeouts were easily a season high for the right-hander, who hadn't logged more than five in any previous appearance this year. Vasquez now has a 3.72 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 71:49 K:BB through 123.1 innings over 25 appearances (24 starts). He's tentatively projected to make his next start on the road versus the Mets, assuming Vasquez has done enough to stay in the rotation while Nestor Cortes (biceps) remains on the injured list.
