Delayed by visa issues Suarez has yet to arrive at camp due to visa issues, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Impact Suarez is one of five Phillies absent for that reason, as the ongoing coronavirus pandemic interferes with international travel. If the delay lasts too long it would mean the lefty won't have time to ramp up as a starter, though he was always a long shot at best to open the season in a big-league rotation spot. Suarez will stand a decent chance at winning a bullpen role but isn't a lock to do so.

Back at alternate site The Phillies optioned Suarez to their alternate training site Wednesday.

Impact Despite being designated as the 29th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Nationals, Suarez went unused in both contests. With no more twin bills on the Phillies' schedule the rest of the regular season, Suarez won't be eligible to rejoin the big club unless another player is placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

Impact Suarez struggled mightily in three outings since returning from the COVID-19 injured list, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out one over four innings. The southpaw will attempt to improve at alternate camp, and it's unclear whether he'll return to the major-league bullpen with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.
