Tosses complete game shutout
Gilbert (6-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing five hits and striking out seven in a complete game shutout against the Giants.
Impact
Gilbert bounced back from an eight-hit, four-run outing against the Nationals in his last start with his best performance of the season. His complete game shutout was the first of his career and marked his first scoreless start of 2023. He was incredibly efficient, handing out no free passes and retiring the final 11 batters consecutively to end the game at 105 pitches. The start knocked Gilbert's ERA down to 3.82 after entering the contest at 4.19 and moved his K:BB to 100:19 through 17 starts (101.1 innings). Gilbert's expected to make his next appearance this weekend in a road matchup with the Astros, who've averaged 7 runs per game over their last six.

Hit hard early in loss
Gilbert (5-5) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings against the Nationals. He struck out four.
Impact
Gilbert gave up four consecutive hits to open the game, which led to three runs coming across for Washington in the first inning. The right-hander was able to pitch his way out of trouble over the next four innings before again surrendering consecutive hits to open the bottom of the sixth, leading to another run for the Nationals. Gilbert has now allowed at least four runs in three of his last six starts and has failed to record more than five strikeouts in each of his last four. He'll look for better results when Mariners travel to take on the Giants next week in San Francisco.

Delivers seven strong frames
Gilbert (5-4) earned the win Friday, giving up one run on two hits and one walk over seven innings against the Orioles. He struck out five.
Impact
The right-hander allowed just two baserunners through six scoreless frames, but Anthony Santander broke through for Baltimore with a solo homer in the seventh. Gilbert has flashed his top-of-the-rotation potential at times this season but hasn't been able to maintain that performance consistently, and he came into Friday having given up five-plus earned runs in two of his previous four starts. He has a 4.07 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 89:17 K:BB through 86.1 innings this year and projects for a favorable matchup versus Washington next week.

Strikes out three in no-decision
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings against the White Sox. He struck out three.
Impact
Despite walking a season-high three batters, it was still a nice bounce-back effort for Gilbert, who surrendered six earned runs to the Angels last time out. The right-hander started the campaign strong, posting a 3.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 69:10 K:BB through his first 10 appearances (60 innings), but he's given up 14 earned runs across his past four starts (19.1 innings) while recording a modest 15:6 K:BB. Gilbert's next start is lined up for a matchup in Baltimore.

Crushed by Angels
Gilbert (4-4) allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over three-plus innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Angels.
Impact
The Angels jumped on Gilbert right out of the gate, starting with Taylor Ward's solo homer. Gilbert went back out for the fourth inning but left without recording another out. He threw just 58 pitches and saw his ERA shoot up to 4.38 through 74 frames. Gilbert has been tagged with 12 earned runs across 14 innings over his last three starts. His next start is lined up to be at home against the White Sox.

Start moved up to Sunday
Gilbert will start Sunday versus the Angeles, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Gilbert was scheduled to start Monday versus the Marlins with Bryce Miller scheduled for Sunday against the Angels, but the two will switch spots in the Seattle rotation. It's made possible by the Mariners having Thursday off, so Gilbert will be pitching on regular rest in the series finale versus the Halos.

Dazzles in fourth win
Gilbert (4-3) allowed a run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven innings, earning the win Tuesday over the Padres.
Impact
After getting tagged for seven runs (five earned) over four innings versus the Yankees in his last start, Gilbert bounced back with his second-longest outing of the season. The one negative was that he issued multiple walks for the third time in 12 starts. Gilbert's at a 3.80 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 79:13 K:BB through 71 innings. He's projected for a home start versus the Marlins next week.

Roughed up in loss
Gilbert (3-3) surrendered seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out four in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday.
Impact
Gilbert's night got started with a 38-pitch first inning during which the Yankees put three runs on the board off a couple of singles, a walk and an error by Eugenio Suarez. He was unable to really get going from there. He wound up allowing a three-run homer to Anthony Volpe in the third and then a solo blast to Greg Allen in the fourth before his day was all said and done. Tuesday was just the second time this season Gilbert has given up multiple homers and failed to reach five innings in a game. His four strikeouts also tied his season low. Still, the 26-year-old currently owns a 6.6 K/BB, which would be the best average of his career and he seems to be getting a bit unlucky as a has a 3.14 FIP in comparison to a 4.08 ERA. His 0.98 WHIP is currently tied for third-best in baseball and he'll look to get back on track next week in a road matchup with the Padres.

Efficient in win
Gilbert (3-2) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six over eight innings to earn the win Thursday over the Athletics.
Impact
Gilbert allowed two of the first four batters he faced to record a hit, with Seth Brown taking him deep for a two-run home run. After that Gilbert allowed just one more single while throwing just 77 pitches (59 strikes) in an efficient start. The right-hander has six quality starts among his 10 outings this season, and this was the second time he issued no walks. For the season, he's at a 3.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 69;10 K:BB through 60 innings. Gilbert will likely be tested a bit more in a home start versus the Yankees next week.

Strikes out nine in win
Gilbert (2-2) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out nine over six innings to earn the win Saturday over Atlanta.
Impact
Gilbert had a tough first inning, in which he allowed a two-run home run to Matt Olson, but he was able to settle in after that. This was Gilbert's fifth quality start in nine outings this season, and it was the first time in his last four starts he's allowed a homer. The right-hander is now at a 3.81 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 63:10 K:BB through 52 innings. He's projected for a favorable home start versus the Athletics next week.

Allows three in no decision
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Tigers. He struck out four.
Impact
Gilbert allowed a run in the opening frame, another one in the third and then couldn't quite make it through the sixth after Andy Ibanez doubled off him with two outs. Trevor Gott allowed the inherited runner to score before he was able to close out the inning. Gilbert wasn't as effective as usual Sunday. He allowed 10 hard hit balls and had a season-low four strikeouts while just missing out on a third consecutive quality start against one of the weaker offenses in the league. Still, Gilbert has allowed three runs or less in six of his eight starts on the year and will take a 3.91 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 54:9 K:BB into his next projected start against Atlanta.

Pitches well in loss
Gilbert (1-2) took the loss Monday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against Texas. He struck out 10.
Impact
Gilbert had one of his best starts of the year despite the loss. The right-hander's 10 strikeouts were a season high, and he also tied his season high in innings pitched. The 26-year-old has proven himself to be a dependable option, as he hasn't allowed more than four runs in an appearance this season.
