Demoted to Triple-A The Diamondbacks optioned Ginkel to Triple-A Reno following Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Dodgers.
Impact Ginkel's demotion comes in the wake of perhaps his worst relief appearance of the season. During Saturday's loss, Ginkel retired only three of the eight batters he faced in a 36-pitch outing, giving up three earned runs on a double and four walks. The loss of control was a surprise from Ginkel; he had issued only three free passes over his last 14 relief appearances combined.

Blown up in loss Ginkel (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out one over a third of an inning in a 9-3 loss to Miami.
Impact The Diamondbacks had just clawed their way back to tie the game in the top of the eighth, but it took just two batters in the bottom half of the inning for Miami to reclaim the lead off the usually reliable Ginkel. Throw in some shoddy defense and the Marlins pushed six runs across the plate. Ginkel entered the game with a 3.27 ERA and 1.27 WHIP before picking up his first loss of the season.

Pitches Thursday Ginkel (illness) allowed one hit over a scoreless inning in Thursday's 7-4 loss to Colorado.
Impact Ginkel was unavailable for a game earlier this week with manager Torey Lovullo saying the reliever was "under the weather." Arizona's unsettled bullpen could use some stability, and Ginkel has not yet been scored upon in four appearances, spanning 3.1 innings.

Unavailable due to illness Ginkel was 'under the weather' Tuesday night, which is why he wasn't used in Tuesday's 13-inning win over the Rockies, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Impact Both Chris Devenski and Yoan Lopez blew save opportunities Tuesday night, leading to rookie Matt Peacock making his debut and pitching three innings to finish the game. We still don't have an official closer for the Diamondbacks, and might not for a while with Joakim Soria on the IL.

Makes second spring appearance Ginkel allowed one walk and struck out one over a scoreless inning in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cubs.
Impact Ginkel entered the game in the eighth inning in what was his second spring appearance. He pitched the fifth inning during is other outing. He had been considered closer material in 2020 following a breakout 2019, but the right-hander allowed 11 earned runs over 10 innings when pitching the final third of games last season. Ginkel is expected to have a spot in the 2021 bullpen but has been passed by Stefan Crichton for high-leverage work.

Optioned to alternate site Ginkel was optioned to Arizona's alternate training site Thursday.
Impact Ginkel had seemingly taken over as the Diamondbacks' closer after Archie Bradley was traded to Cincinnati at the deadline, but he's now no longer even a low-leverage option. His 6.75 ERA and 2.12 WHIP on the season certainly aren't closer material. Travis Bergen picked up a save Thursday and is the only remaining pitcher on Arizona's roster with a save this season.

Tagged with loss Ginkel (0-2) was tagged with the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, recording one out while giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and a walk with one strikeout.
Impact Ginkel came into a tied 10th inning and immediately allowed the extra-innings baserunner (Corey Seager) to advance to third on a wild pitch. He then gave up an RBI single to Chris Taylor before striking out Cody Bellinger. After walking Max Muncy, Ginkel was replaced with Hector Rondon, who charged another run to Ginkel by surrendering an RBI single to AJ Pollock. Ginkel had blown his first opportunity at closer last week against the Dodgers but earned a win two days later against the Giants. He's not exactly off to a good start in a high-leverage role.

Converts save Ginkel worked around a walk while striking out one in a scoreless inning to record the save in Friday's 6-5 win over the Giants.
Impact Ginkel, who blew a save earlier this week against the Dodgers, was awarded a second opportunity and was much better the this time around. There have been two chances for Diamondback relievers to save games in the ninth inning since Archie Bradley was traded, and both times manager Torey Lovullo opted for Ginkel.
