Impact Ginkel, who blew a save earlier this week against the Dodgers, was awarded a second opportunity and was much better the this time around. There have been two chances for Diamondback relievers to save games in the ninth inning since Archie Bradley was traded, and both times manager Torey Lovullo opted for Ginkel.

Impact This was the first save chance for the Diamondbacks since they traded closer Archie Bradley, and it did not go well for Ginkel, who entered with a 1-0 lead to start the ninth inning. He hung a 2-2 slider to Mookie Betts, who wiped out the slim lead and sent the game into extras. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that he plans to use a committee of relievers to close games: Ginkel, Stefan Crichton, Junior Guerra, Yoan Lopez and Hector Rondon. All five of them are controllable beyond this season, so it's logical to assume Lovullo is using the month of September as an audition for the team's closer in 2021.

Impact Ginkel was responsible for four of the Rockies' six runs in the eighth inning Tuesday. It's the second time he's allowed four runs in an appearance, after doing the same over two-thirds of an inning Opening Day. The 26-year-old Ginkel has an unsightly 16.20 ERA with six strikeouts in five innings across seven appearances.

Impact Ginkel has been slowly chipping away at a monstrous 54.00 ERA, which was the result of a four-run outing in two-thirds of an inning on Opening Day. He was a valued setup man over the second half of 2019 and opened the year in that role, but Ginkel has not been used as such since Opening Day. Since then, he's allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings. As the right-hander adds more positive results, manager Torey Lovullo may eventually return Ginkel to a setup role.

Impact Ginkel was a late arrival to camp due to a cold, which required the Diamondbacks to test him twice for COVID-19. "The cold went away, everything felt good," Ginkel said. "Normal illness, set me back a few days, nothing too extreme though." Ginkel was one of the Diamondbacks' best relievers over the second half of last season and enters 2020 in a setup role.

Impact Add Ginkel to the list of players that have yet to report to summer camp. He's expected to serve as one of the primary setup men for closer Archie Bradley. David Peralta and Kole Calhoun were among the missing Friday, but apparently GInkel's absence went undetected until Saturday. Regarding the missing players, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said the same thing Saturday that he said Friday: Guys are completing their intake testing. "I think Major League Baseball has set forth a certain protocol that you've got to arrive, you've got to quarantine, you've got to test, you've got to pass the test. I think it's a small window for very rigorous protocols," said the manager. At this time, teams are not allowed to state whether players have contracted COVID-19 because it is considered a "non-employment-related" issue, though a player may authorize a team to do so.
