Likely to return Sunday Springs (lower leg) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game in Kansas City, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact Springs was moved to the IL on July 10 due to right lower leg tightness, but he'll end up spending close to the minimum amount of time on the shelf so long as he completes a bullpen session Thursday or Friday without any renewed discomfort. Before being shelved with the injury, Springs had made a productive early-season transition from the bullpen into the rotation. Over his first 11 starts, Springs has produced a 3.02 ERA while striking out 59 in 53.2 innings.

Heading to injured list Springs was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 7, with tightness in his lower right leg, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Impact Springs presumably picked up the injury during his start last Tuesday against Boston, and he'll move to the injured list rather than make his next turn through the rotation Monday. The left-hander will be eligible to return immediately after the All-Star break July 22, though it's unclear if he's expected to be healthy by that time. Josh Fleming was promoted in a corresponding move and is likely to fill Springs' spot in the rotation.

He eventually settled down to throw a couple of scoreless frames before being pulled after four innings of work. The 29-year-old left-hander has asserted himself as a fairly dependable starter in 2022 after beginning the season in the bullpen. Despite giving up three earned runs over four innings he still has a 2.53 ERA and 1.05 WHIP this season. Springs is expected to make his next start Monday at home in a rematch against the Red Sox.

Impact Springs ended up staying home during the team's trip to Toronto to deal with a family medical matter. While Springs allowed three home runs his last time out, he's been fantastic overall this season in his hybrid starter/reliever role, posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHP over 60 innings. There's little reason to think his workload will be significantly limited in his return.
