INJURIES

Mauled by Tigers Springs (3-9) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on six hits and four walks over 4.1 innings as the A's were downed 6-1 by the Tigers. He struck out four.
Impact Homers by Jake Rogers in the second inning and Spencer Torkelson in the fifth accounted for most of the damage off Springs, who got the hook after 92 pitches (49 strikes). The southpaw has been tagged for five or more runs in five of his last six starts, sending his ERA soaring from 4.37 to 6.08. The A's remain on the fringes of the playoff picture, both in the AL West and the wild-card race, but they might have to make some major rotation upgrades at the trade deadline if they're going to make any kind of serious push.
1 DAY AGO • ROTOWIRE
Tagged for six runs in loss Springs (3-8) allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out two over 5.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers.
Impact Springs had a rotten June, allowing at least three runs in each of his six outings for the month. He gave up a total of 32 runs (30 earned) over 27 innings in that span. He still hasn't won a game since April 14 versus the Rangers. Springs is at a 5.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 80:33 K:BB through 93.1 innings over 18 starts this season. Springs has had a particularly tough time at home with a 6.79 ERA over his 11 home starts, including two games in Las Vegas. His next outing is projected to be on the road in Detroit.
JULY 1 • ROTOWIRE
Better in no-decision Springs did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Giants, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
Impact It was a solid outing overall for Springs, who held San Francisco to one run through his first five innings before giving up two runs in the sixth. It's certainly a step in the right direction for the left-hander, who had given up 21 earned runs in just 16.1 innings in his previous four starts. Overall, Springs is 3-7 with a 5.52 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 78:29 K:BB across 17 starts (88 innings) this season. He's currently in line for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers his next time out.
JUNE 26 • ROTOWIRE
Lasts 3.2 frames in no-decision Springs didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Angels after allowing six runs on four hits and four walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out four.
Impact Springs couldn't get out of the fourth inning, making it the third time over his last four outings that he hasn't pitched more than four frames. Springs has a 9.70 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over his last five appearances dating back to May 27, so it's hard to trust him in most fantasy formats right now -- he's not even a good option to be a spot starter who can eat innings. Springs is slated to make his next start on the road against the Giants.

Heim's pinch-hit HR in 9th helps A's complete huge comeback for 12-11 win over Angels in 10 innings

Tagged for three homers in loss Springs (3-7) allowed eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and struck out five without walking a batter over four innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Rockies.
Impact Springs had the misfortune of being the A's pitcher to start twice during their six-game homestand in Las Vegas. It went poorly both times for the southpaw, who allowed 13 runs (11 earned) over nine innings in those starts. He wasn't trending well to begin with -- he's now allowed at least four runs in five straight appearances. Springs is at a 5.13 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB through 79 innings over 15 starts this season. He is tentatively projected for a home start in Sacramento against the Angels his next time out, though Springs seems to be a risky option even in favorable matchups at this time.
JUNE 14 • ROTOWIRE
Surrenders five runs in no-decision Springs did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Brewers. He struck out three.
Impact Springs was able to grind through five innings, but they weren't particularly effective, as he allowed plenty of traffic and surrendered a pair of homers. After not allowing a homer in any of his first four starts of the campaign, the southpaw has been plagued by the gopher ball, giving up at least one homer in nine of his past 10 outings. The 33-year-old will take a 3-6 record with a 4.68 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 63:23 K:BB across 75 innings (14 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Rockies.
JUNE 9 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles in no-decision Springs didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Cubs. He allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk across 3.2 innings. He struck out three and gave up two home runs.
Impact Springs has given up at least four runs in three of his last five appearances, and he's failed to pitch past the fifth inning in his last two starts. Over that five-game stretch, the 33-year-old southpaw owns a 5.19 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, but perhaps the most concerning stat is the fact that he's given up seven homers in just 26 innings. Springs will aim to bounce back in his next start, scheduled for next week at home against the Brewers.
JUNE 4 • ROTOWIRE
Falls to Seattle Springs (3-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out seven.
Impact Seattle got to Springs early Wednesday, scoring three unearned runs on a Rob Refsnyder homer following a Jeff McNeil error with two outs. While Springs' final line was decent (his seven strikeouts matched a season high), the southpaw would ultimately come away with his fourth consecutive loss. After starting the year 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA in his first four starts (24.2 innings), Springs has gone 0-6 with a 5.62 ERA in his subsequent eight outings (41.2 innings). Springs will look to turn things around his next time out, currently scheduled to come on the road next week against the Cubs.

Remains winless in May Springs (3-5) allowed four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three over 6.1 innings to take the loss versus the Padres on Friday.
Impact Springs was tagged for three home runs in the contest, with Ramon Laureano's solo shot in the seventh being the difference. This was Springs' third straight loss, and he's allowed nine runs (eight earned) over 17.1 innings in that span. For the season, he has a 4.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 50:19 K:BB through 61.1 innings across 11 starts. Springs was sharp to start the year, but all 11 homers he's allowed have come over his last seven games, a span in which he's gone 0-5. He'll try to right the ship in his next start, which is projected to come at home versus the Mariners.
MAY 23 • ROTOWIRE
Saddled with fourth loss Springs (3-4) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 10-1 loss to the Giants. He struck out three.
Impact Springs turned in six serviceable innings -- with the damage coming via a Luis Arraez solo homer in the third inning and a Matt Chapman RBI double in the fourth frame -- but a lack of run support stuck the southpaw with his second consecutive loss and fourth defeat of the season. Springs has cooled off after allowing just four runs across 24.2 innings in his first four outings, though the 33-year-old has still been generally effective for the Athletics with a 3.93 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB across 55 innings (10 starts). His next outing is tentatively scheduled for Friday against the Padres.

Bader's wind-aided grand slam helps Giants breeze to 10-1 victory over Athletics

Harrison Bader hit a grand slam that capped an eight-run eighth inning and the San Francisco Giants beat the sloppy Athletics 10-1 in 25-35 mph winds

Struggles early in loss Springs (3-3) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Cardinals.
Impact Springs was blitzed as the Cardinals rallied for four runs in the first inning. The Athletics got three back in the next frame, but they never pulled even, leaving Springs to take the loss even after he settled in to avoid further damage. He's gone five starts without a win, allowing 19 runs over 24.1 innings in that span. For the season, he's at a 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB through 49 innings over nine starts. The southpaw's next outing is projected to be a favorable home matchup versus the Giants over the weekend.
MAY 13 • ROTOWIRE
Contains Phillies in no-decision Springs didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
Impact The 33-year-old southpaw filled the zone perhaps to a fault Wednesday, as he threw 55 of his 75 pitches for strikes but gave up his second-most knocks of the year. Even so, Springs managed to limit the damage and has now tossed at least five frames in every start so far except his last, when he was lifted early due to hip soreness. He'll bring a solid 3.89 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB across 44 innings into his next outing, which is set to come against the Cardinals.

Cleared for next start Springs (hip) is listed as the Athletics' probable pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
Impact Though Springs was lifted after three innings during his most recent start in Thursday's win over the Royals after experiencing right hip soreness, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said afterward that the southpaw was removed merely as a precaution. The skipper added that he didn't expect Springs to miss a start, and the 33-year-old now looks like he'll be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation after receiving treatment for the hip issue. Springs will head into Wednesday's outing with a 3-2 record, 3.06 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB through 38.2 innings over seven starts.

Expected to make next start Springs (hip) is expected to be available for his next scheduled start, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.
Impact Springs exited Thursday's 6-3 win over the Royals in the fourth inning due to right hip soreness, but manager Mark Kotsay noted after the contest that the pitcher's removal was precautionary. Kotsay explained that Springs was likely able to continue, and he "made the decision" for his starter, removing him from the game, but the manager doesn't "see any reason for him to miss a start." Springs is projected to face Philadelphia on the road early next week.

APRIL 30 • Associated Press
Leaves outing with hip soreness Springs was removed from Thursday's start against the Royals after three innings due to right hip soreness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Springs probably wasn't long for the game, anyway, having needed 67 pitches to navigate through his three frames, but an issue with his hip was apparently the reason for the quick hook. The southpaw yielded two runs on five hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch before exiting. The Athletics should have more information on Springs' condition after the game. He is tentatively lined up to face the Phillies on the road in his next start.
