INJURIES

Picks up first save Springs struck out one in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save against the Yankees on Sunday.
Impact Springs has been dominant for the Rays to begin the season, and he earned his first career save Sunday. Although Diego Castillo came on in the seventh and eighth innings and earned the hold while Springs got the nod in the ninth frame, Castillo has earned four saves this year and still appears to be the Rays' top option for ninth-inning duties. Springs has now recorded a 1.29 ERA with nine strikeouts in seven innings to begin the season.

Impact Obtained in a mid-February trade with the Red Sox, Springs has proven a reliable addition to a talented Rays bullpen thus far. The 28-year-old southpaw's early success is in stark contrast to his performance over the previous two seasons, when he pitched to a 6.66 ERA and 1.86 WHIIP across 52.2 innings with the Rangers and Boston.

Dropped from 40-man roster Springs was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Impact Springs has thrown 84.2 major-league innings over the last three seasons, but he hasn't done much with them, posting a 5.42 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. The fact that he's a lefty may make him slightly more interesting on the waiver wire, but he should stand a decent chance to pass through unclaimed.

Sent to secondary site Springs was optioned off the Red Sox's roster Friday.
Impact Springs has spent most of the season on the big-league roster but has generally failed to impress, posting a 7.08 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP over 20.1 innings. His 28:5 K:BB suggests he possibly deserved quite a lot better, however, as does his .423 BABIP. Deserved or not, those are presumably his final numbers of the season with the campaign ending Sunday. Andrew Triggs (neck) returned from the injured list in a corresponding move.

Implodes in extra-innings loss Springs (0-2) allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk with one strikeout in one inning to take the loss in extra innings versus the Braves on Friday.
Impact Springs gave up a pair of runs to blow a save opportunity in the 10th inning. The Red Sox regained the lead in the 11th, but Springs was sent back to the mound for a second inning and allowed a walkoff homer to Freddie Freeman to take the loss. The 28-year-old Springs has been unimpressive with a 7.08 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 28:7 K:BB in 20.1 innings this season.

Optioned to alternate camp Springs was optioned to the Red Sox's alternate training site Tuesday.
Impact Springs pitched inconsistently over four appearances with Boston this season, and he'll head to alternate camp after giving up three runs over 1.1 innings Monday. Right-hander Robert Stock was recalled to take Springs' place in the major-league bullpen.

Gives up two homers Springs allowed five runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two over 1.1 innings in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Mets.
Impact Springs entered as the bulk-innings pitcher but gave up bulk runs instead. He served up a two-run homer that left Pete Alonso's bat at 116.3 MPH in the third inning then a three-run shot to Dominic Smith an inning later. Boston's plan to get by with openers and bulk-inning pitchers for the fourth and fifth slots in the rotation didn't begin well. Springs and Josh Osich put the Red Sox in an early 7-0 hole from which they could not dig out.
