INJURIES

Tabbed for start Sunday Latz will start in place of Nathan Eovaldi (back) in Sunday's game against the Tigers in Arlington, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Eovaldi was scheduled for the start opposite Detroit ace Tarik Skubal, but the Rangers righty has been scratched due to tightness in his back. In Eovaldi's place, Latz will step in for what will most likely be a spot start, unless Eovaldi requires a stint on the injured list. The lefty previously made two starts this season, topping out at six innings and 88 pitches June 24 versus Baltimore. Latz has pitched well overall this season, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 48:21 K:BB over 48 frames spanning 21 appearances.

Claims save in long relief Latz (undisclosed) struck out three and allowed two hits and no walks over three scoreless innings of relief en route to earning a save in Tuesday's 10-2 win over the Orioles.
Impact In his previous appearance during Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Orioles, Latz was lifted after 2.1 innings due to an apparent injury, but the Rangers felt comfortable enough with his health to turn to him in an extended relief outing two days later. Latz needed 43 pitches to record his nine outs and was credited with the first save of his career. The left-hander previously made a pair of starts in June but will likely work out of the bullpen moving forward following Nathan Eovaldi's recent return from the injured list.

Exits Sunday's game Latz (undisclosed) was removed in the ninth inning of Sunday's game against the Mariners, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.
Impact Latz was replaced by Luke Jackson in he middle of an at-bat in the ninth. Wilson relays that Latz was dealing with an illness Saturday and may have been fatigued during Sunday's outing. Latz will finish the day having tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing one hit and one walk.

Brilliant in no-decision Latz came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Orioles, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks over six-plus innings. He struck out four.
Impact The southpaw no-hit the O's through six innings as the Rangers built a 3-0 lead, but after Latz gave up a single to Ramon Laureano and walked Gunnar Henderson to begin the seventh, he had to watch from the dugout as Chris Martin served up three straight homers to erase his chance at a win. Latz has been outstanding since moving into the rotation, posting a 2.31 ERA and 0.69 WHIP in 11.2 innings over two starts, but his 4:4 K:BB suggests he wouldn't be able to sustain anything close to that pace over a longer stretch. With Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) on track to rejoin the staff this weekend, however, Latz will likely head back to the bullpen.

Confirmed for Tuesday's start Latz will start Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.
Impact It was reported earlier in the day that Latz was tentatively lining up for Tuesday's start, and the club confirmed the southpaw as the starter following Monday's 6-0 loss. This will mark Latz's second start of the season, though he worked 5.2 frames in relief Thursday and is stretched out to provide length, making this more of a spot start versus a bullpen game.
JUNE 24, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Tentatively lined up for Tuesday Latz appears tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday's game in Baltimore, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact Dane Dunning is also an option to start Tuesday, but it sounds like the Rangers will give the ball to Latz as long as he isn't needed out of the bullpen Monday. Fifteen of Latz's 16 appearances this season have come out of the bullpen, but he went 5.2 relief innings and threw 82 pitches last Thursday against the Royals, so he's stretched out to provide length Tuesday. With Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) expected back later this week, it would likely be just a spot start for Latz.
JUNE 23, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Throws multiple relief innings Latz allowed one run on three hits and one walk over 5.2 relief innings in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Royals.
Impact The Rangers' rotation is nicked up, and Thursday's game was the third bullpen game over the last 10 days. Latz, who was once a starter in the minors, hadn't thrown this many innings since April of 2022 when he was in the rotation at Triple-A Round Rock. He's averaged three innings over his last four appearances and might be an option to make a start at some point.

Bullpen games have provided quite a relief for the Texas Rangers with a pair of non-starter wins

Those bullpen games have been quite a relief for the Texas Rangers
JUNE 14, 2025 • Associated Press
Works in relief Wednesday Latz (hand) allowed two earned runs on three hits in an inning of relief in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Twins.
Impact The lefty made his second career MLB start in his most recent appearance last Sunday against the Nationals and struck out seven over 3.1 innings before exiting with an apparent blister or cut on his pitching hand, but he made enough improvement for the Rangers to call upon him from the bullpen three days later. With Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) looking unlikely to be ready to return from the injured list the next time his turn in the rotation comes up Saturday versus the White Sox, Latz could be needed to make another start. Even if that's the case, Latz would likely be deployed as more of an opener than a traditional starter.

Exits with apparent hand injury Latz was removed from his start in Sunday's game against the Nationals due to an apparent cut or blister on his pitching hand, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. He str...
Impact Making just his second big-league start and his first since the 2021 season, Latz wasn't expected to work much deeper into Sunday's contest after he had already tossed 60 pitches prior to leaving the game following a mound visit from manager Bruce Bochy and a team trainer. Latz gave the Rangers some quality innings while he was on the mound, and assuming he can quickly move past the hand issue, he could be an option to lead off another bullpen game if Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) isn't ready to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible later this week.
JUNE 8, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Starting bullpen game Sunday Latz will start Sunday against the Nationals, Matthew Postins of SI.com reports.
Impact The Rangers will throw a bullpen game, with Latz leading the way. He threw three innings as recently as May 27, so he could work multiple innings, if effective. Latz has turned in seven consecutive scoreless innings, maintaining an 11:2 K:BB across his last five appearances.
