Remains out of lineup
Springer (knee) isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Impact
Springer is considered day-to-day after he exited Monday's series opener with a bruised knee, but he'll be out of the lineup for a second straight game. He didn't appear off the bench Tuesday, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available in a depth role Wednesday. Alejandro Kirk will serve as the designated hitter while Danny Jansen starts at catcher.

Deemed day-to-day by manager
Manager Charlie Montoyo said after Monday's 8-0 win over the Yankees that Springer is day-to-day after sustaining a left knee contusion before exiting in the ninth inning, Kaitlyn...
Impact
Springer, who was serving as Toronto's designated hitter in the series opener, went 0-or-3 with a walk before departing from the game following his eighth-inning strikeout. Though he finished out his final plate appearance of the afternoon, he looked to be in pain after fouling a ball off his left knee. According to McGrath, Montoyo said the ball hit a part of Springer's knee that wasn't protected by padding, so the veteran could need at least one game to let the swelling and pain subside. Springer had been limited to a DH role since being activated from the 10-day injured list Aug. 30 after missing two-plus weeks with a Grade 1 left knee sprain.

Another knee-related setback
Springer was removed in the top of the ninth inning of Monday's game against the Yankees after he appeared to foul a ball of his left knee in his previous plate appearance an innin...
Impact
After a Grade 1 left knee sprain kept Springer on the shelf for just over two weeks in August, the 31-year-old had returned as a designated hitter in each of his first seven starts back from the injured list. The effort to preserve Springer's body still wasn't fully successful, as he appeared to be in considerable pain when he fouled the ball off his bad knee, according to Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic. Though Springer initially stayed in the game and finished out the plate appearance with a strikeout, the Blue Jays elected to pull him in favor of Jake Lamb the next time his turn in the order came up. Toronto should provide more details on Springer's injury after the contest, but it wouldn't be surprising if he missed at least one game as a result.

Confirmed as DH on Wednesday
Springer (knee) will serve as Toronto's designated hitter and leadoff man Wednesday against the Orioles.
Impact
As anticipated, the knee discomfort that resulted in Springer's precautionary removal from Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Baltimore isn't serious enough to keep him on the bench for the series finale. The Blue Jays could still look to limit Springer's exposure to the outfield for the next few days until the knee injury is further in the rear-view mirror.

Likely to DH on Wednesday
The Blue Jays expect Springer (knee) to serve as their designated hitter and bat leadoff Wednesday against the Orioles, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Impact
Springer exited in the seventh inning of Tuesday's 4-2 loss with an apparent aggravation of the left knee injury that recently kept him on the shelf for about two weeks, but the Blue Jays later described his removal as precautionary. If Springer can get back in the lineup Wednesday, it would alleviate some concern about him requiring another trip to the injured list. That said, Springer may be relegated to DH duties for a few games before the Blue Jays feel comfortable letting him play in the outfield.

Leaves Tuesday's game
Springer (knee) was removed during the seventh inning of Tuesday's game against Baltimore after showing some discomfort while running the bases, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca...
Impact
Springer was activated from the injured list Monday after missing just over two weeks with a knee injury, and he exited Tuesday's contest after appearing to be in some discomfort while making a hard stop when rounding second base. According to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet, the Blue Jays labeled his removal a precaution, so he could be back in the lineup Wednesday. Springer went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts before his exit, and Jarrod Dyson replaced him in center field.

Swipes bag in return
Springer went 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in Monday's 7-3 win over the Orioles.
Impact
Activated from the IL earlier in the day after recovering from a knee injury, Springer showed he was 100 percent by swiping second on the back half of a double steal with Jarrod Dyson in the third inning. Springer served as the DH on Monday and may be eased back into his defensive duties, but the 31-year-old should remain locked into the leadoff spot.

Back in action Monday
Springer (knee) will bat leadoff as the designated hitter Monday against the Orioles, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Impact
Springer landed on the shelf Aug. 17 with a Grade 1 left knee sprain, and he'll rejoin the lineup after spending little more than the 10-day minimum on the IL. The 31-year-old was hitless in his last three games before moving to the IL, though he still has a 1.040 OPS with five homers, 14 RBI and 14 runs through 15 games in August.

Targeting Monday return
Springer (knee) said he expects to return from the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday's series opener against the Orioles, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Impact
Springer wasn't able to make it back from the IL for the Blue Jays' weekend series in Detroit, but the 31-year-old looks to be making continued progress in his recovery from the sprained left knee. According to Morosi, Springer ran sprints at high intensity prior to Sunday's game against the Tigers, an indication that his return from the IL is near. Once Springer is officially reinstated, Corey Dickerson could be the Toronto outfielder most likely to lose out on regular at-bats.

Continues pregame work
Springer (knee) continues to participate in pregame drills but won't return from the injured list ahead of Saturday's game against the Tigers, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
Impact
Manager Charlie Montoyo initially said that Springer could return from the 10-day IL on Saturday, but he'll require at least one additional day to recover. The 32-year-old continues to feel good after running the bases and taking batting practice during pregame work, and he's considered day-to-day. Montoyo said Saturday that Springer could return "any day now."
