Expected to join major-league club Cordero is expected to be called up by the Red Sox on Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Impact Travis Shaw was designated for assignment by Boston on Friday after going 0-for-19 with seven strikeouts in seven appearances this year, so Cordero will serve as depth behind Bobby Dalbec at first base. Cordero appeared in 19 games at Triple-A Worcester to begin the year, and he slashed .296/.378/.535 with three homers, 23 RBI and 13 runs. The 27-year-old is a natural outfielder, but he learned first base last year and has been playing the position in the minors this week in anticipation of a promotion. Dalbec has hit just .154 this year, so Cordero should have an opportunity to carve out playing time if he performs well.

Clears waivers The Red Sox outrighted Cordero to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Impact The toolsy outfielder was designated for assignment Thursday and cleared waivers over the weekend, allowing Boston to retain his rights. Unless he elects free agency or is granted his release later in the offseason, Cordero will join the Red Sox for spring training and compete for a bench role as a non-roster invitee. The 27-year-old mashed at Worcester (.931 OPS) this season, but he couldn't translate that success to the big-league level, delivering a .237/.260/.497 slash line while striking out 51 times in 136 plate appearances (37.5 percent).

Designated for assignment Cordero was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Thursday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact Cordero was sent down in early September but will now lose his spot on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old appeared in 48 games for the Red Sox during the 2021 campaign and slashed .189/.237/.260 with a homer, 12 runs, nine RBI and a stolen base.

Sent back down Cordero was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Impact Cordero rejoined the major-league club Sunday after Danny Santana (undisclosed) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list, but he'll head back to the minors after Santana was reinstated Tuesday. The 27-year-old has slashed .309/.402/.512 with seven homers, 41 runs, 39 RBI and nine stolen bases in 58 games at Triple-A Worcester this year.

SEPTEMBER 7, 2021 • MASSLIVE.COM
Back with Boston The Red Sox recalled Cordero from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
Impact Cordero went 7-for-32 with two walks and 14 strikeouts in his most recent big-league stint before being sent down Aug. 16. Despite their COVID-19 outbreak, the Red Sox have remained relatively deep at first base and outfield, so Cordero figures to get minimal playing time.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sent down Monday Cordero was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Impact Cordero's playing time had decreased recently, as he had been in the lineup for just one of the last five games. He should get more consistent at-bats in the minors, while Travis Shaw will take his place on the active roster after he was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox on Sunday.

Impact Left-hander Josh Fleming will begin Wednesday's game on the bump for Tampa Bay, so Cordero will head to the bench for the third time in the last five contests. Bobby Dalbec will start at first base while Marwin Gonzalez takes over in left field.

Red Sox beat Blue Jays 2-1 in 8 to earn doubleheader split

Jonathan AraĂşz singled home the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning and the Boston Red Sox beat Toronto 2-1 Saturday night to split a doubleheader with the Blue Jays
AUGUST 7, 2021 • Associated Press
Out against lefty again Cordero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
Impact Boston is facing a left-handed starter (Shane McClanahan) for the sixth game in a row, so the lefty-hitting Cordero will once again remain on the bench while Bobby Dalbec gets another turn at first base. Cordero's window of opportunity to fill a strong-side platoon role at first base could close rapidly, as Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) could return from the injured list as soon as Tuesday and may challenge Cordero for the job.
AUGUST 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Takes seat for Game 1 of twin bill Cordero is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
Impact Considering that the Blue Jays are expected to use two left-handed starting pitchers Wednesday in Steven Matz and Robbie Ray, the lefty-hitting Cordero may not crack the lineup for either half of the twin bill. That said, Cordero still looks as though he could be in store for a look as a strong-side platoon man at first base. He manned first base for both of Boston's last two games, when the Red Sox faced right-handed starting pitchers.
JULY 28, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Out against lefty Cordero is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Impact While making his second straight start at first base Monday and third in a row overall, Cordero went 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits in Boston's 5-4 win in the series opener. Though he'll take a seat Tuesday with southpaw Robbie Ray on the hill for Toronto, the lefty-hitting Cordero may have captured a strong-side platoon role at first base. Bobby Dalbec will replace Cordero at the position Tuesday.
JULY 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Logs two hits in win Cordero started at first base and went 2-for-4 in Monday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.
Impact Cordero made a second consecutive start at first base -- both against right-handers -- in place of Bobby Dalbec, who has a .578 OPS against righties. He has three hits in seven at-bats in those two starts. Toronto will have left-hander Robbie Ray on the bump Tuesday, so we could see Dalbec back in the lineup for that one. Cordero or Michael Chavis could get starts at first base against right-handers until Boston's injured regulars -- Christian Arroyo (hamstring), Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) and Danny Santana (groin) -- are ready to return.
JULY 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Nabs another start at first base Cordero will start at first base and bat eighth Monday against the Blue Jays, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Impact Cordero logged only 38 innings worth of experience at first base at Triple-A Worcester prior to his call-up last week, but that's apparently enough for the Red Sox to give him a look at the position while Bobby Dalbec continues to struggle versus right-handed pitching and while Christian Arroyo (hamstring), Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) and Danny Santana (groin) are on the shelf. The 26-year-old picked up his first start at first base in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Yankees, going 1-for-3 with a run scored. Expect either Cordero or Michael Chavis to occupy the position versus right-handed pitching until the Red Sox regain some health.
