Takes loss Friday Fedde (4-8) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings, taking the loss Friday versus Atlanta.
Impact The right-hander got off to a shaky start by allowing a pair of runs in the first inning, but he settled in well after that. Atlanta then got to Fedde again in the third inning, pulling ahead for good to leave him with his first loss since July 16. He's taken four losses and five no-decisions in his last nine starts, and he's only pitched past the sixth inning once in that span. The 28-year-old has a 5.15 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 79:37 K:BB through 87.1 innings this year, and he's projected to make his next start versus the Mets next week.

Fans eight in quality start Fedde didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Cubs after allowing three runs on four hits (two home runs) and a walk while fanning eight across six innings.
Impact Fedde was originally expected to start Saturday's game but ended being pushed one day. He still delivered a strong outing, though, as the eight strikeouts represented his second-best output of the year in that category and also tossed his second quality start over his last three appearances. Despite the decent performance against the Cubs, the fact that Fedde has been struggling of late can't be overlooked. He owns a 7.24 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP over his last six appearances since the beginning of July.

Won't start Saturday Fedde won't start Saturday's game against the Cubs, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Shortly after the Nationals announced that Fedde would serve as Saturday's starter they corrected the information and said Joe Ross will take the mound instead. The 30-year-old Fedde could still start Sunday's series finale against the Cubs.

Starting Saturday Fedde will start Saturday's game against the Cubs, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact The right-hander allowed four runs in 4.2 innings against the Phillies on Tuesday, and he'll start on short rest Saturday as the Nationals attempt to sort out their rotation plans after trading away Jon Lester and acquiring Josiah Gray. Across his last six starts, Fedde has put up an 8.53 ERA and 1.97 WHIP in 25.1 innings.

Allows four runs in no-decision Fedde gave up four runs on eight hits and a walk over 4.2 innings during Tuesday's 6-4 win at Philadelphia. He had four strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
Impact The right-hander was staked an early 6-1 lead but was unable to qualify for the victory when he was pulled during the fifth inning after allowing two runs on three hits. Fedde posted a 3.33 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 10 starts this season, but he's struggled over his past six outings with an 8.53 ERA and 1.97 WHIP. Regardless of the downward trend, his rotation spot appears relatively secure with Stephen Strasburg (neck) heading for season-ending surgery and Max Scherzer attracting significant trade interest ahead of Friday's deadline.

Solid against Marlins Fedde allowed one run (none earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out four across six innings Wednesday against the Marlins. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Fedde was crushed for six runs across just 1.1 innings in his last outing, but rebounded to turn a solid effort Wednesday. He relied primarily on keeping the ball in the infield, as nine of his 18 outs came via the ground ball. The only true trouble he found himself in came in the fourth inning, when he loaded the bases with no outs. However, he avoided major damage by inducing a double play to stymie the rally. Fedde now has a 4.88 ERA with a 64:34 K:BB across 72 innings on the season.
