Acquired by Phillies in trade The Phillies acquired Thomas from the Athletics on Monday in exchange for Seth Johnson, Jayson Stark of The Athletic reports.

Impact Thomas has a .628 OPS with 10 home runs and a 34 percent strikeout rate in 253 big-league plate appearances. The 25-year-old was one of the Athletics' better prospects not long ago, is a career .285/.360/.546 hitter in the minors and is under team control through 2031, making him an interesting flier for Philadelphia. Thomas will likely report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley initially, but the right-handed hitter could get some chances with the Phillies versus lefties down the stretch.

Sent down to Triple-A The Athletics optioned Thomas to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.

Impact The move makes room on the 26-man roster for Jonathan Ornelas, whose contract was selected by the Athletics from Las Vegas. Thomas has been on the big-league roster since late April, but in 16 games since July 1 he's gone 4-for-34 (.118) with one RBI and a 38.9 percent strikeout rate while operating in a reserve role. He'll head back to Triple-A, where he's slashing .309/.397/.574 with one steal, five home runs and 19 RBI over 78 plate appearances this season.

Impact Thomas suffered an injury scare Monday, when he was lifted early in the Athletics' 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks after being struck in the left wrist by a pitch. He was fortunate to avoid any structural damage, but he dealt with a painful bruise that kept him on the bench for the ensuing four contests. Thomas is back in the starting nine Sunday against Twins southpaw Connor Prielipp and should continue to hold down the short side of a platoon in the Athletics outfield.

Avoids serious injury Thomas has been diagnosed with a bruised left wrist, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact Thomas was plunked on the wrist during the third inning of Monday's game against Arizona, though it seems he managed to avoid a significant injury. The team will likely give him another look in the morning to determine whether he'll be available for Tuesday's action.

Impact Thomas made six consecutive starts in the corner outfield from June 27 through last Friday, but he now finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games. All three of those absences have come against right-handed pitching, as Thomas looks like he'll have to settle for a short-side platoon role with Carlos Cortes having heated back up at the plate and earned himself more opportunities versus righties at Thomas' expense.

Impact Thomas continued his recent success at the plate with his seventh-inning blast. He has homered in consecutive contests and has gone 5-for-12 over his last four games while seeing some steady playing time while the Athletics are missing Tyler Soderstrom (hip) and Brent Rooker (knee) from the outfield mix. Thomas is batting .238 with a .687 OPS, four homers, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored, two doubles and a stolen base over 85 plate appearances this season.

Impact Thomas picked up his first multi-hit effort since May 13 versus the Cardinals. He's largely filled a platoon role at best during his time in the majors this season, but injuries are piling up for the Athletics, which has opened the door for him to get more playing time recently. The outfielder is batting just .221 with a .623 OPS, three homers, eight RBI, nine runs scored and one stolen base over 82 plate appearances. Thomas will need to take advantage of his opportunities to maintain more playing time in the near future.
