Gabriel Arias - Returns to Cleveland lineup
Arias (wrist) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Friday's game versus the White Sox.
Impact
Arias was forced to miss the last three contests with right wrist inflammation, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go in Friday's series opener. With Arias at shortstop, Brayan Rocchio will shift back to second base for the Guardians.

Juan Brito - Undergoes hamstring surgery
Brito will be sidelined for 8-to-12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair his left hamstring, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Brito came into spring training with a chance to win the Guardians' second-base job, but he spent all season in the minors and was limited to only 24 games at Triple-A Columbus due to thumb and now hamstring surgeries. The 23-year-old should report to spring training without any restrictions.

Travis Bazzana - Out at Triple-A with oblique injury
Bazzana was removed from Thursday's game at Triple-A Columbus due to left oblique soreness, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Impact
It's not being called a strain at this juncture, but even if the injury is deemed minor, there's a good chance it will end the top prospect's season. Bazzana had been heating up lately with Columbus, posting a 1.163 OPS with four home runs over nine September contests. The 23-year-old missed a chunk of time earlier this season with a right oblique strain.

CJ Kayfus - Blasts go-ahead homer late
Kayfus went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 3-2 win over Kansas City.
Impact
Kayfus flipped the script in the bottom of the eighth inning when he launched a two-run, go-ahead homer 425 feet to center field. Up to the point, the Guardians offense put up little fight (three hits, one run) against Royals pitching. The home run on the first in 17 contests and third of the season for Kayfus, who's been on a bumpy road since late August. He entered the night batting .128 (5-for-39) with a .453 OPS over the previous 14 games.

Gavin Williams - Six Ks in six strong innings
Williams didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Royals, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out six.
Impact
The right-hander delivered his third consecutive quality start, and he's now tossed at least six frames while yielding two runs or fewer in seven of his 10 appearances since the All-Star break. However, homers and walks do remain an issue for Williams, who got taken deep in his fourth straight start while issuing at least three free passes for the third time during that span. Williams will take a 3.16 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 152:79 K:BB across 156.2 innings into his next start, which is set to be a tough matchup against the first-place Tigers.

Cade Smith - Nails down 13th save
Smith struck out two in a clean ninth inning for the save Thursday against the Royals.
Impact
Although Smith opened the month by imploding for three earned runs in his first September outing, he's turned in four saves across five consecutive scoreless appearances since then. With Emmanuel Clase's future with the Guardians uncertain, Smith is cementing himself as Cleveland's closer to close out the regular season. He has a 3.15 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 92:13 K:BB while converting 13 of his 18 save chances over 65.2 frames.
