Impact Freeman ran for Josh Naylor, who exited the game with a bruised ankle in the eighth inning. The steal was Freeman's first in a month, though a lack of playing time is partially to blame for that. He's seen action in 19 contests in August, going a putrid 2-for-35 (.057) while getting plunked four times. Freeman is at a .206/.304/.320 slash line with 11 steals, seven home runs, 32 RBI, 48 runs scored, 14 doubles and a triple over 112 contests this season. The 25-year-old's slump has relegated him to a short-side platoon role at shortstop, and his playing time could shrink further depending on which players the Guardians call up when rosters expand Sunday.

José Ramírez - Two thefts in Friday's win Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in Friday's 10-8 win over the Pirates.
Impact It's been a memorable month for Ramirez, as the do-it-all third baseman is batting .279 (29-for-104) with six home runs, 14 steals and 17 RBI over 28 contests in August. With his two steals Friday, he matched his career high in a season at 34, a mark he previously reached over 157 games in 2018. Ramirez is slashing a strong .276/.333/.531 with 33 homers, 104 RBI, 98 runs scored, 31 doubles and a triple over 132 contests this year, and with a full month to go, a 40-40 campaign is not out of the question.

Impact Noel helped the Guardians answer a fifth-inning rally from the Pirates. His homer put Cleveland ahead 7-6, and the hosts didn't trail again in the contest. Noel has gone 11-for-34 (.324) with four homers and nine RBI over his last nine games. For the year, he's up to a .262/.333/.611 slash line with 13 homers, 26 RBI, 22 runs scored and five doubles across 45 contests. While he has a 31.2 percent strikeout rate, Noel has proven more than capable of making his contact loud.

Pedro Avila - Collects fifth win Avila (5-1) retired both batters he faced, including one via strikeout, to earn the win Friday over the Pirates.
Impact Avila got the last two outs of the fifth inning after starter Ben Lively was chased following a barrage of hits from the Pirates in that frame. The Guardians replied with a four-run rally of their own and led the rest of the way, giving Avila his second win in 14 appearances this month. He's allowed six runs on 12 hits and five walks while striking out 16 over 14.2 innings in that span. For the year, Avila has done fairly well in a middle-relief role with a 3.95 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 74:31 K:BB over 70.2 innings between the Guardians and the Padres.

Impact The Cleveland second baseman slugged a 375-foot solo shot off Carmen Mlodzinski in the fifth inning for his sixth long ball of the year. Gimenez later swiped second base in the seventh to collect his ninth steal in the month of August and 25th of the season. The 25-year-old is now slashing .254/.305/.333 with 57 runs scored and 53 RBI across 528 plate appearances.

Impact With this 13-pitch effort, Clase reached the 40-save plateau for the third time in his career and trails only Ryan Helsley (41) for the MLB lead. It wasn't a clean save though, as the Cleveland closer allowed his second homer of the season -- a leadoff solo shot by Andrew McCutchen -- snapping a streak of nine straight scoreless appearances. Impact Naylor seemed to roll his ankle as he hit an RBI single into right field during the eighth inning, causing Tyler Freeman to replace him as a pinch runner.
