Sal Stewart - Sitting again Saturday Stewart is not in Saturday's lineup against the Cubs.
Impact Stewart will head to the bench for a second game in a row, Friday against a lefty and Saturday against righty Javier Assad. The righty-hitting rookie has been swinging a hot bat (.972 OPS over his last 11 games), but Spencer Steer has been even more productive of late (three homers, eight RBI over last three games), and Steer is starting at first base and batting second Saturday.

Noelvi Marte - Losing playing time Marte is not in Saturday's lineup against the Cubs.
Impact Marte started five games in a row prior to sitting Thursday against a righty, starting Friday against a lefty and now sitting again against righty Javier Assad. In both cases, Will Benson has started in right field with Austin Hays in left. Marte is hitting .149 with 18 strikeouts and three walks over his last 12 games, so he may continue to lose playing time against righties. The Reds are tentatively scheduled to face only right-handed starters in their final eight games of the regular season.

Emilio Pagán - Secures 28th save Pagan gave up a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 28th save of the season in a 7-4 win over the Cubs.
Impact The 34-year-old right-hander has already set a new career high in saves, but with eight games left on the Reds' schedule, Pagan's got a shot at his first 30-save campaign. Opportunities have been hard to come by of late however -- over the last month, he has a 3.18 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB through 11.1 innings, but Pagan's managed just three saves in four chances.

Nick Lodolo - Fans seven in no-decision Lodolo came away with a no-decision in Friday's 7-4 win over the Cubs, giving up four runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.
Impact The southpaw was hurt by the long ball again, serving up homers to Dansby Swanson in the second inning and Matt Shaw in the fourth, but the Reds clubbed five homers of their own on the night. Lodolo hasn't won a game since returning from a blister issue in late August, failing to last longer than 5.1 innings in four straight starts, and over that stretch he's stumbled to a 5.95 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB through 19.2 innings. He'll try to finish his 2025 on a high note next week, when he lines up for a home outing against the Pirates.

Spencer Steer - Big role in Friday's win Steer went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 7-4 win over the Cubs.
Impact For the second time in three games, Steer powered the Reds to a victory. On Friday, he hit a solo homer in the fourth inning, and then his two-run shot in the seventh was the go-ahead knock. This outburst came two days after he homered and knocked in five in Wednesday's win over St. Louis. All of this followed a stretch when Steer missed time due to spasms in his neck.

Elly De La Cruz - Ends homer drought De La Cruz went 1-for-2 with two walks, a solo home run and was caught stealing in Friday's 7-4 win over the Cubs.
Impact De La Cruz helped break a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning when he hit the second of back-to-back home runs, his 20th this season. The blast was his first since July 31, a stretch of 43 games during which De La Cruz slashed .205/.255/.290 with just 10 RBI.

Rhett Lowder - MRI on shoulder is negative Lowder (oblique/forearm) recently underwent an MRI on his right shoulder that came back negative, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Impact Reds manager Terry Francona noted that Lowder -- who hasn't pitched since Sept. 13 -- was having trouble recovering in between appearances. While imaging came back clean, Lowder's rehab will be slowed, which effectively ends his season. He's been limited to just five rehab appearances this season due to forearm, oblique and now shoulder issues.
