Fire seven shutout frames
Singer (1-0) earned the win during Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox after giving up four hits with nine strikeouts and zero walks over seven scoreless innings...
Impact
Singer served as the 27th man for the twin bill, so it's not a surprise he's returning to the minors despite the impressive showing. The right-hander pounded the zone and threw 70 of his 93 pitches for strikes while generating 18 swings and misses. Singer was shifted to the bullpen for the start of the season and was sent to Triple-A after three relief outings, but he returned to the majors and pitched a gem in his first start of the year. The 25-year-old should receive another look in the major-league rotation before long following Tuesday's performance.

Called up for doubleheader start
The Royals recalled Singer from Triple-A Omaha ahead of his scheduled start in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the White Sox.
Impact
As anticipated, Singer is being designated as the Royals' 27th man for the twin bill, but he'll have a chance to stick around as the fifth member of the Kansas City rotation if he outperforms the starter in Game 1, Jonathan Heasley. After failing to escape the fourth inning while issuing four walks and allowing four hits in his first start with Kansas City last week against the Rangers, Heasley doesn't enter Tuesday with a long leash as a starter. Meanwhile, Singer started 39 games for Kansas City between the past two seasons, and despite opening the 2022 campaign in the bullpen, he's fared well as a starter since being optioned to Triple-A in late April. He stretched out to six innings in his most recent outing last week, so he shouldn't face any major workload restrictions when he makes his first start for the big club later Tuesday.

Locked in to start nightcap Tuesday
Singer will be called up from Triple-A Omaha to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the White Sox, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Kansas City will presumably designate Singer as its 27th man for the twin bill, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be sent out to Omaha immediately after the outing. Instead, Singer's performance in his first start with the big club this season along with how Jonathan Heasley fares in Game 1 of the twin bill will likely determine which of the two sticks around in Kansas City as the team's No. 5 starter. After failing to win an Opening Day rotation spot and making three appearances out of the bullpen before being optioned to Omaha in late April, Singer gradually upped his pitch count in the minors while serving as a starter. He most recently tossed six innings for Omaha on May 11, conceding four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four in a game against Iowa.

Impact
After missing out on a spot in Kansas City's season-opening rotation, Singer made three relief appearances for the Royals before being optioned to Omaha on April 28. Since being demoted, Singer has been building up in preparation for a starting role, with the right-hander most recently covering six innings and giving up four runs in his last start May 11. Singer previously made 27 starts at the big-league level in 2021, submitting a 4.91 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 131:53 K:BB across 128.1 innings.

Optioned to Triple-A
Singer was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Singer began the season in a bullpen role and posted a 6.35 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 5.2 innings during three relief appearances. He'll attempt to right the ship as a starter in the minors and will presumably be an option to fill in if the Royals' rotation staff deals with injuries at some point, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Logs two scoreless innings
Singer allowed a hit and struck out two in two scoreless innings in Tuesday's 6-0 win over the White Sox.
Impact
Singer gave up four runs in three innings in his first appearance of the year, but he's cover 2.2 scoreless frames in his last two outings. The right-hander has added a 6:1 K:BB this season in a small sample. For now, he's expected to remain in a multi-inning relief role, but he will be near the top of the list of candidates for spot starts whenever the Royals need one.

Poor in first relief outing
Singer allowed four runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three innings during Sunday's 17-3 loss to the Guardians.
Impact
Singer's first career relief appearance didn't go very well, though it had little impact on what was already a blowout before he entered the game. The right-hander allowed a two-run home run to Jose Ramirez and an RBI single to Ernie Clement in the seventh inning, and then ran into more trouble that yielded a Franmil Reyes RBI single in the eighth. Starter Kris Bubic and long reliever Jackson Kowar both struggled as well, with the latter being reassigned to Triple-A Omaha on Monday as a result. While Singer is expected to continue working out of the bullpen, he'll need to pitch better than he did Sunday to get back into the rotation.

Serving as reliever to begin season
Singer will work out of the bullpen initially in 2022, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Singer has started all 39 of his major-league appearances to date, but that will likely change in 2022. The 25-year-old went 5-10 and struggled to a 4.91 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 131:53 K:BB in 128.1 innings last season. Daniel Lynch and Jonathan Hernandez won rotation spots, but Lewis added that the Royals still view Singer and Jackson Kowar as starters. Should injuries arise, Singer will be near the top of the list of candidates for a spot start, and he could also win a starting role through performance.

Solid in spring debut
Singer allowed an unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out two over two innings in Monday's win over the Angels.
Impact
Singer was shut down with arm inflammation late last season, but he's been good to go for spring. It was his error that led to a run Monday, but the right-hander was otherwise solid in his first game action of the year. He's looking for a bounce-back campaign after going 5-10 with a 4.91 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 131:53 K:BB in 128.1 innings across 27 starts last year. He should be near the front of the Royals' rotation in 2022.
