No. 5 Oklahoma carry road win streak into Kansas State
No. 5 Oklahoma (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) at Kansas State (4-2, 1-2), Saturday at 12 p.m. EDT (ABC).
Line: Oklahoma by 24.
Series record: Oklahoma leads 76-19-4.
WHAT’S AT STAKE?
Oklahoma will try to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive with a trip to Manhattan, where the Sooners haven’t lost since 1996. They are coming off a blowout win over West Virginia but follow the Wildcats with back-to-back games against ranked teams (Iowa State and Baylor). Kansas State is looking for a statement win after snapping a two-game skid with a nip-and-tuck win over TCU last weekend.
Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts against the Kansas State secondary. Hurts suddenly looks as if he could follow Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray and deliver the Sooners another Heisman Trophy. He’s already thrown for 2,074 yards with 20 touchdowns and three picks while running for 705 yards and 10 more scores. He’ll face a defense that shut down the Horned Frogs last season but struggled in losses to Oklahoma State and Baylor.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Oklahoma: WR CeeDee Lamb could become the Sooners’ second Biletnikoff Award winner if he continues at this pace. He caught 185 yards worth of passes and all three touchdowns from Hurts in their win over Texas, and had 71 yards receiving against the Mountaineers.
Kansas State: RB James Gilbert, who transferred from Ball State for his senior season, needs to have a big game to kill the clock and take some pressure off the Wildcats’ defense. He had back-to-back 100-yard rushing games to start the season but was held to 38 yards by TCU.
