Coco Brown - Rushes for TD Brown ran 10 times for 85 yards and a touchdown Friday against UNLV.
Impact Phil Longo is clearly still figuring his team out in his first season as Sam Houston's head coach. Brown was listed as the starter for Week 0, but then played 11 snaps and got zero touches. Here in game two, with game one's top back Alton McCaskill (undisclosed) out, Brown got the most carries and he did well with them. For now, things appear muddled in the Bearkats backfield.

Elijah Green - Rushes for 36 yards Green ran eight times for 36 yards and had one catch for 18 yards versus UNLV on Friday.
Impact This is the second week in a row where Green has gotten the second-most carries by a Sam Houston running back. What's notable is that two different backs have done that. Clearly, it would seem Green is in a secondary role, but he does seem to be part of the passing game.

Mabrey Mettauer - Throws TD, INT Mettauer went 8-for-13 for 86 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against UNLV on Friday. He also fumbled, but the Bearkats didn't lose it.
Impact For Week 0 against WKU, Mettauer was listed as co-starter on the depth chart. Then, Hunter Watson played literally the entire game and Mettauer didn't get a snap. This time around, Mettauer did get his chance. He managed Sam Houston's only passing TD, but is that enough for more playing time going forward?

Impact It seemed, during Week 0, like Watson had clearly won the QB battle over Mabrey Mettauer. However, in this game Mettauer saw plenty of time under center. Maybe new Sam Houston head man Phil Longo just figured the loss was locked in and wanted to see what Mettauer could do. It might be that the QB battle is back on, though.

Alton McCaskill - Breaks off big run McCaskill ran 11 times for 72 yards and a touchdown against WKU on Saturday.
Impact It's worth noting that McCaskill broke off a 52-yard run, so beyond that he had 10 carries for 20 yards. The back has had a winding road to get to this point. He was at Arizona State last season, and Colorado in 2023. However, if you go back to 2021, he ran for 961 yards and 16 touchdowns with Houston. Of course, can he return to that level in 2025?

Impact Green has been around for a while. He first played for North Carolina in 2020, and played for Indiana last season. Now, the well-traveled, well-seasoned back is with Sam Houston. The fact he was so involved in the passing game is interesting. While he only got six carries, the only other running back to get even a single carry was Alton McCaskill, who had 11.
