Impact Brown did not play during the Bearkats' 2024 season but is atop their depth chart for Saturday. All the running back's counting stats come from his 2023 season, in which he logged nine carries for 17 yards and three receptions for 13 yards. It is difficult to gauge just how good Brown can be when given significant opportunities, but the Bearkats' updated depth chart being true means he should surpass his previous career highs quite easily.

Hunter Watson - Listed as co-starter Watson is listed as a co-starter on Sam Houston's depth chart along with Mabrey Mettauer, per Sports of SHSU.
Impact Watson started for the Bearkats last season, tossing for 1,811 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 62.4 percent of his passes. He also added 647 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground. However, it appears he has yet to secure the starting job, as he's listed as an "OR" on the depth chart alongside Wisconsin transfer Mabrey Mettauer. Sam Houston head coach Phil Longo likely has a soft spot for Mettauer, as he recruited him to Madison when he was the Badgers' offensive coordinator. This competition could come down to the wire, and it's unclear at the moment who the Bearkats will trot out under center in Week 0 against Western Kentucky.

Impact McCaskill spent 2024 with Arizona State after also spending time with Houston and Colorado. The tailback ran for just 17 yards last fall, but his best season came with the Cougars in 2021 when he amassed 961 yards and 16 touchdowns. He'll try to re-assume that form with Sam Houston.
