Impact O'Connell has been stellar to start the year throwing for 1,000 yards, eight touchdowns, and only one interception. Unfortunately, he's on the fence about suiting up which could make things more competitive for the Boilermakers this Saturday. Expect coach Jeff Brohm to reach a final decision by Saturday morning.

Productive in close loss O'Connell went 39-of-55 passing for 424 yards and a 3:1 TD:INT ratio during Saturday's 32-29 loss to Syracuse. He also added one seven-yard rush.

Impact O'Connell registered his all-around most productive start of the season, tossing for over 400 yards for the fourth time over his last eight games dating back to last year. The senior signal-caller made his first crucial mistake of the 2022 campaign as he tried to spin out of a sack midway through the fourth quarter, throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown by defensive lineman Caleb Okechukwu to put Syracuse up 25-15. O'Connell did follow this up with touchdown passes to wide receiver Charlie Jones (11 receptions, 14 targets, 188 yards) and tight end Payne Durham over the team's next three offensive drives, putting his team up by four points with less than one minute remaining Saturday. The 6-foot-3 passer will look to lead his team back into the win column when Purdue takes on Florida Atlantic next Saturday.
