Bills starting cornerback Christian Benford inactive against Patriots because of toe injury
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills listed cornerback Christian Benford as inactive because of a toe injury for their home game against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Benford spent the week not practicing after being hurt during a 24-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers last weekend. Coach Joe Brady has not provided a timetable on when Benford could return.
The Bills (3-0) are thin at the position with rookie Davison Igbinosun and veteran Dee Alford the team’s only backups behind Benford and fellow starter Maxwell Hairston. In anticipation of Benford not playing, the Bills promoted defensive backs Te’Cory Couch and Kani Walker off their practice squad on Saturday.
The Patriots defense is also depleted in missing starting cornerback CB Christian Gonzalez and starting tackle DT Christian Barmore, who had previously been ruled out with shoulder injuries.
