Atlanta Falcons' social media post of their throwback logo causes a stir online
ATLANTA (AP) — A social media post by the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons of their throwback logo on a red, white, gold and black striped background has caused a stir online, with replies noting its resemblance to symbols from Nazi Germany.
The logo release provoked thousands of responses on social media, many of them memes that mocked the design.
The logo coincides with the Falcons wearing throwback uniforms Sunday at home against unbeaten San Francisco. That includes the team’s primary logo from 1989-2002 of a right-facing black and white falcon. The widely panned background is not part of the throwback helmets or uniforms.
A message sent to the Falcons seeking comment Friday was not immediately returned. An NFL spokesperson did not immediately respond to a message asking for comment.
Team owner Arthur Blank is Jewish and has donated significant money and offered support for Holocaust remembrance causes, through the Molly Blank Fund in the name of his mother. That included $1.5 million to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2023.
