Testing of the new IR-28 chassis that will be introduced into the NTT INDYCAR SERIES at the start of the 2028 season will continue next week, with laps turned outside of Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time.

Five-time and reigning NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing (photo, top) and 2016 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge winner Alexander Rossi of ECR will continue to serve as drivers of the new car in testing Monday, Oct. 12 and Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Sebring International Raceway. Palou will test Monday, with Rossi taking over Tuesday.

The historic Florida circuit resembles conditions of INDYCAR SERIES temporary street circuits, with a variety of surfaces, including asphalt and concrete, and many bumps.

The test comes after three days of laps by Rossi and Palou in early August on the IMS road course for the car’s on-track debut, followed by the car’s oval debut in testing in early September at IMS.

Also turning laps those two days will be Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global and Scott McLaughlin of Team Penske, testing tires for Firestone in current NTT INDYCAR SERIES machinery.

White House Congratulates CGR for Title

Team owner Chip Ganassi received a letter from President Donald J. Trump congratulating him and his Chip Ganassi Racing team for Alex Palou’s fifth NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship this season, the record-setting 18th INDYCAR SERIES title for the organization.

“Chip Ganassi Racing continues to be at the forefront of the racing world,” Trump wrote. “Your team is composed of elite competitors who consistently demonstrate grit, hard work, and dedication.”

Trump, his wife, Melania, and other Cabinet and government officials were honored guests during the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C. on Aug. 23 on the streets of the nation’s capital.
