Boxing champ Terence 'Bud' Crawford leads Nebraska out of tunnel before game with No. 21 Michigan
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A week after he became the first male boxer to capture three unified division titles, Terence “Bud” Crawford led Nebraska out of the tunnel to the field before its game against No. 21 Michigan on Saturday.
Crawford, who defeated Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision to become the unified super middleweight champion, is from Omaha and is a lifelong Cornhuskers fan who has become friends with coach Matt Rhule.
Crawford wore an “Omaha” baseball cap and red No. 168 jersey, representing his championship in the 168-pound division, and trailed quarterback Dylan Raiola as the team ran to its sideline.
Crawford also led the Huskers out of the tunnel before last year's 28-10 win over Colorado.
Rhule, athletic director Troy Dannen and their wives attended last Saturday's fight at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Crawford stayed in Vegas after the fight to attend the Los Angeles Chargers-Las Vegas Raiders game.
A parade to celebrate Crawford's win over Alvarez will be held in downtown Omaha next Saturday.
