Cardinals recall Lyons from Memphis, send Greg Garcia down

The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons from Memphis and that they had optioned infielder Greg Garcia to the Triple A club following Thursday's game.

Lyons, 27, who is being recalled for the fourth time this season, is 8-5 with a 3.21 ERA in 15 games started for the Memphis Redbirds, striking out 90 batters in 89 2/3 innings with just 12 walks.

In six starts for the Cardinals this season, Lyons is 2-1 with a 5.02 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings. Lyons won back-to-back starts June 13 against Kansas City and June 19 at Philadelphia.

His most recent start for the Cardinals came in Game 1 of their July 7 day-night doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. He allowed three runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Lyons, who wears uniform no. 70, is 4-9 with a 4.72 ERA in 29 career games (18 starts) since debuting in 2013. He's 0-1 with a 1.13 ERA in 11 career relief appearances, striking out 26 in 24 innings pitched.

Garcia was batting .350 (7 for 20) in 16 games, with five of his seven hits coming as a pinch hitter.
