ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals will be opening the second half of the season a bit healthier than they ended the first half. They announced Friday they have activated left-hander Kevin Siegrist from the 15-day disabled list.

Siegrist has been out since June 30 with mononucleosis. He is 5-2 this season with a 2.78 ERA, one save and 34 strikeouts in 35 relief appearances covering 32 1/3 innings. Siegrist, who will turn 27 on Wednesday, is tied for the National League lead among relief pitchers with five wins.

To make room on the active roster for Siegrist, the Cardinals optioned right-hander Sam Tuivailala to Triple-A Memphis. Tuivailala, 23, made three relief appearances from July 3-6, allowing three runs over two innings. Among his appearances were two scoreless outings against the Pirates.
