Dantonio not backing away from high expectations

Michigan State has moved well beyond the rebuilding project it was when Mark Dantonio took over in 2007. It's also by all appearances no longer the potential stepping stone job it was when Nick Saban left in 1999.

After back-to-back top five finishes in the national polls, the Spartans feel like true contenders for a spot in the second College Football Playoff field, and their head coach sounds fine with outsiders looking at them as such as well.

"I've always thought that every game we go in we have a chance to win," Dantonio said Sunday while at Michigan International Speedway for the Sprint Cup Quicken Loans 400, per the Detroit News. "I've always thought that and always will at Michigan State. If you look at our past record, we've won some games by inches and we've lost some games by inches. Right now, there's a lot of confidence, a lot of players back, great attention to detail by our guys. Our confidence is high and our expectations are high."

The Spartans have come a long way in just the past couple of years, and judging by their recruiting run of late, they aren't going anywhere as long as Dantonio is at the helm.
