Deng leads Louisiana-Monroe over Northwestern State, 80-64

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) Majok Deng scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Louisiana-Monroe to an 80-64 victory over Northwestern State on Thursday night.

Deng made 8 of 11 field goal attempts and had three assists. Jamaal Samuel scored 15 points, Travis Munnings had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Justin Roberson and DeMondre Harvey chipped in 11 apiece for Louisiana-Monroe (1-1). Roberson also had five steals and six assists.

The Warhawks controlled the boards 49-27 and made 46 points in the paint while limiting Northwestern State to 20, and scored 12 points off fast breaks while the Demons managed just two.

Louisiana-Monroe led throughout, grabbing a 46-32 lead at the break and extending that to 70-42 with 8:11 remaining.

Zeek Woodley was 8 of 19 from the floor, making 4 of 8 from long range, for 24 points to lead Northwestern. Ishmael Lane added 14 points and three blocks.
