Hockey fans on Tuesday were coming to grips with a bizarre moment from the previous night’s Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks matchup where a fan tossed a dead duck onto the ice.

The crowd at San Jose’s HP Pavilion was shocked Monday night when a cold-hearted fan tossed the deceased water fowl on the ice during the third period of the Sharks’ 3-2 loss to the Ducks.
A video posted on YouTube showed the lifeless mallard being launched end-over-end onto the ice during a break in play. Anaheim netminder Jonas Hiller is seen skating over to examine the duck before skating off to inform one of the referees.
In Detroit, fans routinely throw octopuses on the ice for good luck, a tradition which dates back to the 1950s.
The Sharks and Ducks face off again in Anaheim Jan. 4.
