Mets targeting series versus Phillies for Wright’s return

The New York Mets have set a target date for the return of third baseman David Wright to the lineup.

Wright, who is on a rehab assignment at Class A St. Lucie, is scheduled to rejoin the Mets next Monday for the opener of a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. It would mark his first game with the team since April 14.

The 32-year-old Wright has been has been trying to come back from spinal stenosis. He has appeared in four games with St. Lucie, going 4-for-14 while committing two errors in three games at third base.

The New York Daily News, citing a source, reported Monday that Wright told the team he needed more at-bats before he was ready to return to the majors.

Wright also told MLB.com over the weekend that his reactions in the field "are still off." With St. Lucie on the road, Wright has been off for two days but is expected to be back in the lineup Tuesday night.
