(Sports Network) - The NL Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals will look to complete a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds tonight, while trying to match a season-high with their sixth consecutive win. St. Louis last won six in a row June 13-19. St. Louis continued its recent hot streak Tuesday, posting a 5-3 victory over the Reds. The Cardinals extended their lead in the Central to five games over the Chicago Cubs, who lost to Milwaukee. Edgar Renteria belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Cardinals to the win. Jim Edmonds also homered for St. Louis. Matt Morris (9-6) tossed seven innings for the win. He allowed three runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out three. Steve Kline worked the final two frames for his second save. Cardinals All-Star third baseman Scott Rolen was playing with a sore left knee. He underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday which revealed irritation in the joint. Rolen has climbed to fourth in the NL in batting average (.346). St. Louis has ripped off seven straight home wins, their longest string at Busch Stadium since winning eight in a row from September 8-30 in 2001. The Cardinals will send 37-year-old righthander Woody Williams to the mound tonight. Williams has been terrific over his last four starts (3-0), including a victory over Seattle last Friday. The veteran held the Mariners to just three hits and a run in the victory. Williams hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last four starts. Williams won his only other 2004 start against Cincinnati on June 19, giving up only four hits and two runs over seven innings. For his career, Williams is 8-3 with a 4.42 ERA versus the Reds. Toeing the rubber for the desperate Reds tonight will be 29-year-old lefthander Jesus Sanchez. The journeyman, who has made just 18 major league appearances since 2001, struggled in his first effort for the Reds last Friday against Cleveland. Sanchez was blasted for six hits and six runs over 4 1/3 innings by the Indians, while walking three and fanning two. The Dominican twirler was tagged for a pair of homers in the unsuccessful outing. Sanchez has appeared in four career games against St. Louis, tallying a 2-1 record with a 5.14 ERA. Reds reliever Gabe White (0-2) suffered the loss Tuesday after surrendering three runs on three hits in two innings. Jose Acevedo started for the Reds and was charged with two runs on four hits in six innings. He walked three and fanned six. Ken Griffey Jr. went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Cincinnati, which has dropped seven of its last 10 games. Jason LaRue added a pair of hits in the defeat. Ryan Freel is 8-for-14 in his last three games and is 16-for-35 during an eight-game hitting streak. Cincinnati has lost 12 of its last 15 on the road to slip to 19-24 for the season. This season, the Reds are 11-7 versus first-place teams. St. Louis has won four of five meetings this season from the Reds, winning a series at Busch Stadium from June 18-20. The Cardinals have won eight of their last 10 at home versus Cincinnati. season, which are the most for a Reds hurler since Pete Harnisch had that many in 2000. No Reds pitcher has thrown four complete games in a season since Tim Belcher in 1993. In his most recent start, last Wednesday against the New York Mets, Lidle tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits. He is 3-1 in six career games (2 starts) versus the Cardinals. This season the Reds are 11-5 versus first-place teams. St. Louis has won two of three meetings this season from the Reds, winning a series at Busch Stadium from June 18-20. The Cardinals have won six of their last eight at home versus Cincinnati. br/> Cincinnati owns an 8-5 lead in the 2003 series between these clubs, but has lost four of the last five meetings. The took two of three from Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park last week.

The are 29-39 on the road this season, while the are 40-28 at home this year.

St. Louis manager Tony La Russa remains three wins shy of 2,000 for his career.
