Brandon Nimmo - Receives injectionNimmo received a cortisone-type injection in his neck Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ImpactThe injection was administered in hopes that Nimmo could play as soon as possible, but he's not guaranteed to be ready for Opening Day. Mark Canha and Starling Marte both have experience playing center field, so the Mets should have no issue filling Nimmo's spot if he's forced to miss time. Dominic Smith would likely start in left field if that happens, though that job could also go to J.D. Davis on Opening Day against lefty Patrick Corbin if the Mets are comfortable using Davis in the outfield, something which didn't happen last season.

Tomás Nido - Raking this springNido is batting .417 (10-for-24) with a double and a homer this spring.
ImpactThe Mets' backup catcher has only a .566 OPS in his big-league career, so don't expect him to maintain that level of offense once the regular season begins. Nido will likely need a James McCann injury to see significant playing time in 2022, but his spot on the roster at least seems secure for now with top prospect Francisco Alvarez still a couple years away from the majors.

Trevor May - Looks ready for seasonMay walked one and struck out one in a scoreless inning during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
ImpactThe veteran right-hander has a 5:1 K:BB and 0.00 ERA this spring, albeit in only three appearances, and he appears ready to handle a set-up role for the Mets once again. Over 62.2 innings in 2021, May collected seven wins, four saves and 16 holds with a 31.2 percent strikeout rate.

Travis Jankowski - In line for roster spotJankowski is expected to win an Opening Day roster spot, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ImpactJankowski has a spot available unless the Mets need to call up an extra pitcher in the event of a setback for Max Scherzer (hamstring). As a career .239/.322/.318 hitter, Jankowski is a poor fit for everyday at-bats, but his ability to play above-average defense at all three outfield spots makes him a fine fit for a bench role, which is all the Mets should need from him.
