Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843479 Sit - Josh Johnson Sit+-+Josh+Johnson Fantasy Baseball

Though his 1-3 win/loss record doesn’t indicate the five times Josh Johnson held his opponent to three runs or less and still didn’t get the win, his 1.61 WHIP properly resembles his seven-hits-or-more in six of 10 outings this year. He tends to be hit-or-miss, literally, with each start. From Johnson’s 3.1 innings of work allowing five earned runs on eight hits against Boston, to his 10 K performance versus Colorado, he’s been hard to read. The road has not been Johnson’s friend, and next he travels to Cleveland for a start on Tuesday. This season, he is 0-2 with a 9.26 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in three away starts. – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843477 Sit - Mark Reynolds Sit+-+Mark+Reynolds Fantasy Baseball

Somehow, Mark Reynolds has managed to dodge this list all season…until now. Going hitless in a full week’s time will do that to a player. After an amazing April where Reynolds hit eight home runs and drove in 22 RBI his average fell, hard. He batted .301 in the first month of the season and then crashed back to reality by hitting only .218 in May. Then, the calendar turned to June and Reynolds batted .187 in that month. Now, we come to July, where his average has flat-lined to .000. Is it possible to go into the negatives for August? – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843478 Sit - Brett Gardner Sit+-+Brett+Gardner Fantasy Baseball

With all of the injuries the Yankees are dealing with right now, the last thing they (and fantasy owners) need is a slumping starter. As a leadoff hitter, OBP is the most important stat one needs to bring to the table. Brett Gardner is failing in that aspect. Last week, Gardner reached base safely four times. That’s hits and walks combined. I would say it’ll be difficult to let Gardner’s stolen bases go to waste, but he hasn’t swiped a bag since June 16th. – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843476 Sit - Pablo Sandoval Sit+-+Pablo+Sandoval Fantasy Baseball

When one has to search the game-by-game stats to find Pablo Sandoval’s last RBI and home run, that’s an issue. For the record, he last recorded an RBI on May 30th and his last homer was on May 21st. Point being, your third baseman needs to be better. A foot injury sidelined the Panda from any baseball, or Kung-Fu-related, activities. Sandoval returned to action the last week of June and hasn’t manufactured anything that could be deemed productive. If you need the hard numbers for proof, Sandoval went 3-22 (.136) last week with zero home runs, zero RBI, and zero runs scored. – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843470 Sit - Ben Zobrist Sit+-+Ben+Zobrist Fantasy Baseball

Since Ben Zobrist is eligible at so many positions (OF, 2B, and SS) it can be difficult to suggest benching such a player. But, when he goes 3-25 (.120) with two RBI last week it makes the decision easier. Zobrist is even hitting in the three-spot, in front of Evan Longoria, so you know he’s seeing plenty of good pitches. Also, if you look at Zobrist’s month-by-month splits over the last three years, he tends to peak in June and his average dips every month thereafter. It might be time to sell. – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843473 Start - Ivan Nova Start+-+Ivan+Nova Fantasy Baseball

I don’t care who the pitcher is, if he goes a complete game with 11 strikeouts and allowing only three hits, we take notice. Ivan Nova did just that in his last outing as he went the distance in a win over Baltimore. Next, Nova is slated to start Wednesday against Kansas City. Though his career numbers suggest an unfavorable matchup, 1-1 with 11.88 ERA in two starts, Nova’s home performances this year can sway me to think he’ll be a great pickup. In four starts in Yankee Stadium, Nova is 2-1 with a 3.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843472 Start - Kirk Nieuwenhuis Start+-+Kirk+Nieuwenhuis Fantasy Baseball

Throughout these Start/Sit galleries, I try to dole out advice for five players to start that could possibly be available in your leagues. That sentiment rings true with Kirk Nieuwenhuis of the Mets. He’s owned in a meager 0.1 percent of FOXSports.com fantasy baseball leagues (my apologies to the dozen, or so, people in the 16-team, NL-only leagues). No one has actually taken the reigns of center field for the Mets. In fact, I don’t believe any outfield spot is locked up for New York. So, Nieuwenhuis will get the playing time as long as he continues his 9-19 (.474) with one home run and six RBI piece from last week. – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843471 Start - Logan Morrison Start+-+Logan+Morrison Fantasy Baseball

Believe it or not, there is another batter in Miami other than Giancarlo Stanton. When Logan Morrison plays, the Marlins are 11-9. That may not seem like much, but when a team is 23 games under .500 before the All-Star break, every win counts. Sandwiched between Stanton and upcoming rookie Marcell Ozuna, “LoMo” hit .368 (7-19) last week with three home runs and five RBI. In Marlins Park, Morrison is hitting .364 and, naturally, every game for him this week is at home. He’s even a better play against righties. Morrison has only hit home runs off of right-handed pitchers this year and can even hit for average, to the tune of 19-50 (.380). – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843474 Start - Cody Ross Start+-+Cody+Ross Fantasy Baseball

There are a handful of Toledo residents who possess a Cody Ross Mud Hens’ bobblehead (Ryan Fowler included). Like the smiling toy, I too am nodding my head ‘yes’ in approval of adding Ross to your fantasy baseball team. Currently, he is available in 98.4 percent of FOXSports.com leagues. Last week, Arizona’s right fielder hit .355 (11-31) with two homers and five RBI. A major contributor to his average was a 5-5 effort Saturday at home. Though his home/away batting average splits are almost identical, Ross’ OBP and SLG percentage is much better at Chase Field. This entire week, his Diamondbacks stay in Phoenix for a series against the Dodgers and Brewers. – Adam Meyer

Fantasy Baseball 2187 43 Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Starts and Sits: Week 15 31843475 Start - Jayson Werth Start+-+Jayson+Werth Fantasy Baseball

It’s been one week since the latest “Werth-quake”, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t producing. The last seven days, Jayson Werth has batted 11-25 (.440) while driving home seven Nats. This is the player owners were hoping for in 2013. Since returning to Washington’s lineup after a hamstring injury (June 4th), Werth has left the yard four time and tallied 18 RBI. He heads back to Philadelphia where he helped the Phillies win a World Series ring in 2008. In Citizens Bank Ballpark, Werth hits .305 with 18 home runs and 55 RBI. – Adam Meyer
