Manchester United: Mkhitaryan right to be frustrated with Mourinho
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is frustrated with his position at Manchester United and the Armenian has every right to be upset with manager Jose Mourinho.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is frustrated with Jose Mourinho playing him on the right wing at Manchester United, according to The Sun. The playmaker wants to play in his more natural position as a number 10 but the United boss has other ideas.
Mourinho has already nailed his colors to the Wayne Rooney mast. Rooney has played as Mourinho’s number 10 so far this season and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon. Mkhitaryan has mainly played from the bench so far, but was in the starting lineup for the game against Manchester City.
Mkhitaryan disappointed in the derby playing on the right wing and was hauled off by Mourinho at half time. Based on the Armenian’s performance in that 45 minutes, Mourinho was right to drag him off in favor of Marcus Rashford.

But why is Mkhitaryan even playing on the right wing anyway? And especially in a game where United needed pace to counter-attack against a team like City. Mourinho got his tactics wrong in that game and the United boss has got his team wrong when it comes to Rooney and Mkhitaryan.
Rooney has not impressed this season. It’s not like the United and England captain is playing well and he’s the first name on the team sheet. Rooney is slightly better than last season, where the 30-year-old was poor for most of the campaign.

But Mkhitaryan was among the very best players in the Bundesliga last season. Playing for Borussia Dortmund, Mkhitaryan notched 15 assists in the German top flight and netted 11 goals. An outstanding season on the back of the playmaker’s ability to score and create from a central area. Not the right wing.
Mkhitaryan is absolutely right to be frustrated by playing second fiddle to Rooney. It’s ridiculous, honestly. Barely justifiable. One reason you can rightfully put forward, though, is Mkhitaryan’s current form.
Even though he may be unhappy playing on the right wing, you cannot let that show in your performances. Be professional. Do your job. Mkhitaryan is letting himself down if that is the reason for his recent performances.
It’s not like he hasn’t played that position before out wide – he can do it. Mkhitaryan has to be patient and play well while he waits his turn as the team’s chief playmaker.
Nobody wants to play second fiddle, and certainly not when it’s to somebody who’s not living up to expectations. But playing poorly yourself and moaning won’t get you anywhere either.
Mkhitaryan is absolutely right to be frustrated and upset with his treatment under Mourinho at Old Trafford. But let your performances do the talking in a good way, rather than a bad one.
