RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) The Brazilian football confederation CBF has elected Rogerio Caboclo as its new president to replace the suspended Marco Polo del Nero.

Caboclo was the only candidate on the ballot and was elected to a lead the confederation between 2019 and 2023.

Caboclo, who is seen as an ally of Del Nero, will be one of the leaders of Brazil's delegation to the World Cup in Russia.

Last month, FIFA extended Del Nero's 90-day suspension for another 45 days, more than two years after he was indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice in its sprawling investigation of international soccer corruption.

Del Nero resigned from the FIFA executive committee in 2015, but continued in his CBF post.
