Wolves to hold 'Dunks After Dark' event at Minnesota State
MINNEAPOLIS -- There might be some droopy-eyed students and empty seats at Minnesota State's 8:00 a.m. classes Sept. 30.
That's assuming any of the Mankato school's athletics-attuned scholars make their way over to Bresnan Arena in the Taylor Center the night before. There, the Timberwolves will open training camp with some unprecedented flash.
The team sent out preliminary details Tuesday for a "Dunks After Dark" event featuring a scrimmage and dunk contest involving rookies Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine. The free, open-to-the-public event begins at midnight, with the doors opening at 11:00 p.m.
Think "Midnight Madness," NBA style.
Fans interested in attending will have to pick up tickets from the Minnesota State Student Union Center beginning Monday, Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m. The team says a more detailed event schedule will be released in the week prior to the event.
Coach and president Flip Saunders will take it easy on his team the next day with a single practice session that doesn't begin until 2:00 p.m. Two days of two-a-days follow, then three one-practice days with camp wrapping up Sunday, Oct. 5.
The Wolves open preseason play Oct. 7 at Indiana and return home for an Oct. 10 tilt against Indiana.
