Vols to be without DT Danny O'Brien vs. Sooners

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 8:42 p.m. ET

Oklahoma will face Tennessee Saturday and the Vols will be without one of their starting defensive tackles.

Tennessee coach Butch Jones said Danny O'Brien, a junior, has been suspended for violation of team rules. Jones made the announcement at his weekly press conference.

"I'm not going to speculate," Jones said. "It's ongoing and we'll see. We're gonna support Dan as well through this whole deal. But there's just no timetable. I don't want to sit here and tell ya it's one game and I don't want to sit here and tell ya it's six games. It's gonna be the ebb and flow and it could be ever-changing."

O'Brien had 23 tackles in his 12 starts last season. He had a sack and two tackles last week against Bowling Green.

That should be good news for the Sooners, whose offensive line got off to a slow start against Akron. OU ran for just 100 yards and averaged just 3.3 yards per carry last week against the Zips.
