Vikings sign center Berger to one-year extension

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:37 p.m. ET

The Minnesota Vikings signed veteran center Joe Berger to a one-year contract extension, they announced Friday.

The move comes less than a month after Berger beat out longtime center John Sullivan for the starting job.

A 12th-year pro, Berger has started 54 of 115 career games, including 34 of 77 with the Vikings. He filled in for the injured Sullivan last season and was one of the best centers in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. Minnesota released Sullivan on Aug. 30.

The Vikings begin their season Sunday vs. the Titans in Tennessee.
