Twins' Dozier slugging like a Hall of Famer

No one is saying Brian Dozier is going to be headed to the Hall of Fame one day. But Dozier is doing something this year which puts him in a class with some of the all-time greats.

With his next RBI, Dozier will have knocked in 100 runs this season.

Only two other second basemen in the history of the game have had 40+ home runs and 100+ RBI in a season, and they are both in the Hall of Fame.

Rogers Hornsby had 42 homers and 152 RBI in 1922 for St. Louis and Chicago's Ryne Sandberg turned the trick in 1990, when he posted 40 home runs and exactly 100 RBI.

If we extend this to middle infielders, there's only been two shortstops who have accomplished the feat. One is in the Hall of Fame and one, well, has Hall of Fame worthy numbers.

The Cubs' Ernie Banks did it five times (1955, 1957-60), but Alex Rodriguez did Banks one better and has done it six times -- every year from 1998-2003, the first three with Seattle and the last three with Texas. A-Rod also did it twice with the Yankees, but was primarily a third basemen those years.

Dozier might never get to Cooperstown, but in 2016 he has proven himself in the same class as some who reside there.
