Stadium key to Hartford plans won't be ready opening day

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Officials in Hartford, Connecticut, say the planned new baseball stadium, the first major development in decades for the city's depressed north end, won't be ready for opening day.

I. Charles Mathews, a former deputy mayor who runs the Hartford Stadium Authority, says a new move-in date is expected to be announced by Mayor Luke Bronin in the next two days.

Developers say they will need about $10 million more to complete what had been touted as a $55 million stadium.

Eastern League President Joseph McEacharn says it is making contingency plans so the Hartford Yard Goats have a place to play their games. He says the league remains committed to having a team in Hartford for the next 25 years.
