Pelicans launch 'brow' campaign for Davis' Most Improved bid
"Bigger, Better, Brower" -- that's the title of the New Orleans Pelicans' campaign to support All-Star forward Anthony Davis' bid for the NBA's Most Improved Player award.
The campaign feeds off of Davis' trademark unibrow and even includes an invitation for fans to tweet photos of themselves wearing a cut-out unibrow, available at the new website www.biggerbetterbrower.com.
Davis is one of the leading contenders for the award, having jumped up in every statistical category to an elite level of play.
Anthony Davis' Growth:
2012-13 | 2013-14 | Increase | |
---|---|---|---|
Scoring | 13.5 PPG | 21.1 PPG |
7.6 |
Rebounding | 8.2 RPG |
10.2 RPG | 2 |
Block Shots |
1.8 BPG | 2.8 BPG | 1 |
Davis' Player Efficiency Rating has also jumped from 21.7 last season to 27 this season, which ranks 4th in the NBA. He's had nine 30+ point games, 39 20+ point games and 27 20-point/10-rebound games.
On the same day the Pelicans launched the campaign, coach Monty Williams forced Davis to sit out the evening's matchup with the visiting Phoenix Suns because of recurring back spasms. Davis lobbied to play, but Williams said he had to think for Davis.
"After talking to the doctors and getting more information, it just wasn't getting better at the rate we felt it should, so sometimes you have to be their brains for them. He desperately wants to play, but we just don't see the benefit right now."
Davis does not want team management to make a blanket decision about the rest of the season -- which is only a week for New Orleans. Davis is spending hours a day in treatment, including a process called "dry needling," which is similar to acupuncture.
