NAU starts season at No. 23 in FCS poll

The Northern Arizona football team is ranked No. 23 in The Sports Network FCS poll released Friday.

Big Sky rival Eastern Washington is No. 1 in the poll.

NAU finished second in the Big Sky last season, going 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the league. The Lumberjacks rose to as high as No. 8 in The Sports Network poll before ending at No. 15 after making the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

NAU is ranked No. 25 in the FCS coaches poll that was released Monday.

The Lumberjacks, who open the season Aug. 30 at San Diego State, is focused early in camp on finding a replacement for four-year starting running back Zach Bauman.
